Sounds familiar. Never knew my own father - I knew he was Irish, but I always thought he was Irish-Italian. So I always thought I was part Italian - dark skin, etc. Then I discovered my father had no Italian at all. His mother was Irish, or possible English. It gets quirkier...
I found all this out via my uncle, whom I never knew I had. He told me a story about an anscester who was kidnapped by Indians and later returned unharmed. What's so strange about that? It mirrors a story in my wife's family history. She's of Irish descent. Thank God she came from an area far away from any family of my own!
