Exclamation Pardon Our Dust! - 11-29-2006, 04:55 PM

As you may have noticed, the site is going through an overhaul. Partly because it was in desperate need of an upgrade (it was upgraded to the latest stable version, which was almost 8 versions difference from the old one). And so the new graphics/board template needs to be revamped to fit the new features, like multiquote, AJAX, reporting, subscription, etc.

Should be completed by tomorrow.

Lightbulb New Features! - 11-30-2006, 10:32 PM

Here's a quick rundown of all the new features in vB 3.6.4.

1. Multiquoting

You now have the chance to "multiquote" several posts within a thread, without having to copy and paste from multiple posts. Just click on the button (see attachment below) in every post you wish to quote, then click on "quote" in the last one you wish to quote, and the reply window will open will all the posts you are quoting.

2. Goto Source From Quote

In quotes, you will now see an arrow that's linked to the source post. So if you click on an arrow within a quoted post, it will jump to the original post.

3. Spam And Infraction Reporting

When there's a questionable post you wish to report, simply click on the colored button on the top right-hand corner.

4. Antispam Prevention Image Verifications

When guests are trying to register, search, post or spam the forum, without being registered, they will be asked to enter a "captcha" (image with letters and numbers they need to type into a special field) to prove they are not spambots trying to spam the forums.

5. Color-Coding of Threads

Don't forget, all the old features are still there and you are encouraged to use them, like rating posts/threads, adding to a poster's reputation level (if you feel their post has been valuable to you) and more. If you have any questions, ask in this thread.

Thanks!

Michel,

I don't know if this is mentioned somewhere and I missed it, but... it seems the last day or so, the "mark forums read" feature isn't working for me.

1. Could you explain what you mean by "not working?" Details are crucial as some bugs have been reported depending on situations. For example, where was the "forums read" link? What actually happened? When you say it doesn't work, do you mean it doesn't mark them read (it does nothing)? It gives you a 404 error? Or it marks only some forums read? Etc, etc.

Thanks.

2. Log out and log back in, or log out, clear your cookies and your temp files, and log back in. Oftentimes, it's a cache/cookie issue. The old forum has stored files in your browser, and now with the new forum, it might be pulling from old files (under the old version), causing a conflict.

Let me know.

Michel,

I haven't tested it in every situation, but here's how it's not working for me. I come to the board, click on "new posts." I see a few I want to look at and open them, but I want to clean up the view for next time, so I go to quick links and click on "mark forums read."

And nothing happens at all. The information at the bottom of the browser remains the same and just says, "Done."

I click on "new posts" again and all the ones I didn't read, are still there.

Hope that clears it up.

Edited to add: I just logged out, cleared my cookies and logged back in. It's the same... still not marking the threads as "read."

If this helps, I'm on a mozilla/netscape browser.

I've been having a similar problem -- when I've read all the threads I want to in a given Forum, I click on "Forum Tools" and then "Mark This Forum Read."

Normally, it marks all the threads in that forum as read and automatically redirects my browser to the Board's home page. But the last couple of days, it sometimes marks the threads as read, but doesn't redirect me to the home page; and other times, nothing at all happens.

I'm using Firefox 2.0.

Just found the problem. (Thanks Vin, that's all I wanted to know.)

The problem has been fixed. In fact, all the links in the popup menus didn't work. It was a external scripting error.
