Question A New Forum? Thoughts? - 09-19-2006, 11:44 PM

Lately, I've been seeing a trend.

I see a lot of questions, posts and discussions revolving around non-copywriting issues. For example, money-making topics, business-related topics (not the business of copywriting per se), exerptise-related topics (not in copywriting per se), and generic marketing topics (not the marketing of a copywriter, or the marketing aspect in copywriting, but marketing in general).

Some members have made a point that some of these threads are not necessarily related to copywriting, and some squabbles unfortunately ensue because of minsinterpretation or diverging opinions.

Here's my thinking...

Why don't we create a separate forum for marketing or business issues? Not the business of copywriting or marketing a copywriter. But more about issues like moneymaking, selling, Internet marketing, etc.

Let me know.

Maybe just a new folder within the forum- I think that the two are so tightly linked that it is going to come up no matter what.

Not necessary in my opinion. You have all the bases covered with "Off Topic" and "Articles & Offers."

You could create 10 more separate forums and it wouldn't stop the squabbles and disagreements.

When you mesh different personalities and huge egos, disagreements are bound to occur. It's inevitable.

Michel, unlike many other forums, your forum is lean, mean and "on point". That's what separates this forum from the pack.

Please don't screw around with something that isn't broken!

Michel,

Your thinking is right on as usual.

This used to be copywriters. While there are some interesting threads, they aren't all related to copywriting.

It's nice to have a place to call home where we can discuss more copywriting issues.

Seems like the copywriting message has been getting more diluted lately.

My 2 cents...

Cheers,

Mike

I agree to 100%.

but unfortunely however we got Off topic, and Article some of Post can't be made in Off topic.

I have to confess That many Time, I ascked my self if my post belong to Off topic they are sometime too Off to belong to any Topic.

I thought this kind of thing was already covered in General Discussion? Well, that's certainly where I would put a discussion that wasn't specifically related to copywriting.

My feeling is that more forums causes more confusion, and I'm not sure that I see a need for a separate forum for this.

I totally disagree. Creating a new forum is clearly not the answer. Most of your members already don't participate in the Copwriting forum anyway.

Or any forum for that matter.

More forums equal more confusion, and potentially, more garbage!

Jane you confuse me, I confess that now reading this, I think that a folder or like Emerson suggest is perhaps better.

1)there is a need for those topic.
2)and personnaly I dislike to see a separation of member (I mean those belong to X and Those belong to Y).

so I agree with Emerson.

I agree with Emerson, too. I like having this as a home base. We're like family here, and I don't jump around too much. I like your topics; I'd just like to add them to the discussion forums here.

(I edited after re-reading your post.)
