My newbie 2c is probably only worth a penny (Australian, or 0.75c US)
however, I still think that KISS works.
Copywriting is a sub-set of our skills. The beauty of this forum is both the discussion of copywriting and the world in which it functions. I believe this interaction is best served by the nearness and interweaving of the topics, not the dispersal.

My goodness...such strong opinions here.
Folks, it's just a couple more folders. If you don't want to participate, that's cool. Stick with the ones you already know and love and let the others do what they will. Besides, if we get more "marketers" in here to look around and see what's happening, then they'll know exactly where to come to HIRE writers....
Michel, it's your forum. Says so right at the top of the page. If you wanna add a few more folders, be my guest. | | | | | Expert

I think the subfolder idea makes sense as long as there aren't too many. I have a question, though.
To what extent do the mods corral renegade posts? I know they loosely moderate and I've seen some instances of threads being moved.
I'm just wondering how involved the mods are in limiting or redirecting certain discussions.
That's not a challenge, by the way. I'm just curious. | | | | | Master

| We only really have to worry about Alan Forrest Smith.
Since he started wearing a dress to impress Jane things went downhill fast - but apart that, I'll tell you a secret - having 5 or 6 moderating this board is just a show of force.
In reality we never do anything (especially Alan). You all are too polite! Heck, I never get to permanently ban anyone, delete posts forever, ruthlessly hack and edit threads, or do any of those cool moderator things!
Michel is very generous and has given us great Mod powers at the tips of our fingertips - but all I can say is what a waste!
So - if a few of you stop being so nice and helpful, and give us a good reason to do some damage - I personally think that would be pretty cool!
Any takers?
(And Alan - don't you start, or you'll be the first to get nuked!)
My love as always,

| Hey, what about me?
I've done everything in my power to shake up the staus quo around here, and never even got so much as a slap on the wrist!
Seriously though, you guys cut me some major slack, when you didn't have to, and I for one appreciate it!
Thanks, guys!

| Hmmm... I got a surprise for you:
Shaking up the status quo around here is the status quo! Plus, I don't know about the others, but I prefer my chili spicey hot. Did you know a guy could die if he eats too much vanilla oatmeal?

In principle I think it sounds like an O.K. idea.
My one concern however is this...as a free forum you are inevitably going to attract people who are not going to gel with the overall mission of this board. IMO, when you add a general marketing section to a free forum, there is more room for reputation deterioration than improvement.
Once the marketing/info/opportunity junkies start posting it gets harder and harder to separate the wheat from the chaff.
You an AWESOME board here, Michel. I'd think twice before adding a forum that could be bait for people who won't add to the credibility of your site.
Maybe you've already thought of this and have a way to prevent it. If not, I'm sure there's an answer somewhere. I just don't have it. Regards,

| Tim, you'd better get that glass of ice water ready, and sit it right next to your bowl of hot chili, because I'm about to come out with both barrels blazing!

But I think that would be stretching it. | Hi, I'm new here. But I read this forum a lot and for a long time. I think the subfolder idea is very good and I like it, because for me is much easier to novigate this site if it will be clearly in structure like Mitchel write above. English is not my native language and even not the second language in our country, so for me this way is better. Because sometime I need to see topics about copywriting sometime about other thing "nearly it" and it need a lot of time to read each and to find the one I need
I know one forum demiart. ru (it is in russian) which has a lot of subfolders it is about grafic with good structure and strict moderating. And I love it because I can easy find there everything I need about design cards, web sites, bullets etc. But it stated like a forum of photoshop it started very neat and spesialised. Now It becomes a comunity of people from different countries who love disign. There is even a cafe, pub, music club...
And I think copywriting is useless without analitics (split testing), seaches, problems with clients, different programs, marketing, pre-copywriting consulting and other works etc.

One of the reasons my visits to the Copywriters Board have been so far and in-between of late, is that the forum has become a meeting place for marketers as opposed to copywriters.
Of course that's not to be construed as a pejorative statement - just a statement of fact.
I credit 80% of my copywriting success to the insights derived from this forum. And I've stated that fact to many people in the industry many, many many times -- with both pride and appreciation.
But that was two years ago.
Now, I just review the topics in my daily Feedblitz to see if anything is related to copywriting, the craft or the business ... if yes, I pop in ... otherwise, not.
I'd love to see the forum return to its roots.
My opinion, of course.
