RSS used to stand for Rich Site Summary. Now it's commonly known as Really Simple Syndication. It's basically a way to syndicate content on a website to another -- or other process, such as a newsreader, a software program, or even hardware like PDAs (e.g., palm pilots) and cellphones.
Based on the XML protocol (a customizable HTML code), RSS allows websites or software to pull content (often summaries) from others.
This means you can keep up with the latest news from a website offering RSS. You can now receive updates about newly added content (or in the case of this board, posts), including news, articles, and featured content pages. Right to your computer!
The reason why RSS is becoming so popular is mostly due to the plague of spam, which is forcing so many people to never receive emails because of overly aggressive spam filters. More important, it gives people the ultimate flexibility to retrieve content as they wish, without having to subscribe to email or wade through a mass of content and deleting unendingly.
