Default 50 office-speak phrases you love to hate - 06-23-2008, 01:31 PM

These are pretty hilarious. I've heard "circle back to me" about a dozen times in the last month.

Anyway, here's to a good laugh...

Another thing to be grateful for as a freelancer! I remember sitting through meetings at the university wanting to rip my ears off just so I didn't have to listen to trendy biz speak.

There may be a light at the end of the tunnel for Brits, though...

My office-speak phrase, that I say to myself every morning.

"I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go"

Another one I like, is when people ask me why I don't take anytime off.

I tell them "my bills don't take any time off, no sick days, no holidays, they keep working 24/7"

Couple of phrases that make me roll my eyes:

"the net net of that issue is that...."

"let's take that issue offline..."

"we place a lot of value in our human capital" - god that just makes we want to kvetch every time I hear it - I have a client who constantly uses that in their public relations - ugh...

I'm going to suggest the following agenda with my next client:

"Let's meet to pre-prepare for our preparation meeting where we'll drill down to the actionable steps necessary to achieve measurable benchmarks and ways of moving forward together. We'll then circle back and discuss ways to pick the low-hanging fruit and incentivise your offer. From there we'll discuss market paradigm shifts and win-win ways of moving forward together."

Ha.

Is that the modern day version of taking it outside?

"Let's settle this once and for all...brick and mortar style."

Chris,

Your agenda isn't too far off from some companies' mission statements I've seen LOL

First I'll take credit (sort of) for "workshop it."

No... I'm not saying I had anything to do with it, but I believe that one was invented in my (former) industry.

Here's one not mentioned... "Matrix," as in "business matrix," "sales matrix,"advertising matrix..."

My favorite phrase around the office (courtesy of Sargent Schultz)

"I know nothing... I see nothing... I heard nothing"
