If you like spicy food and roasted peanuts in the shell, then you might appreciate this.
About 10 years ago, my wife and I went to visit her parents, who retired down in Calabash, NC (about 2 miles from the SC border, and about 25 mins from Myrtle Beach).
There was a peanut store that had spicy peanuts in the shell. They soaked them in pepper Cajun juice before they were roasted. The result was delicious roasted peanuts with a kick.
Unfortunately all good things must come to an end. That store closed up, and as far as I know, went out of business.
The next few times we went down there, there were no more spicy peanuts to be had.
Until...
A few of my wife's co-workers discovered Virginia Peanuts. And they told us about them.
We've order a few times from them, and never been disappointed. But a warning: you can eat a few of these and say, "these aren't hot!" and then get one that just hits you just right!. Then it's "woot, woot, where's the water!"
Ok, I keed (not really), but they are delicious. Just ordered a couple 5 pound bags and had them delivered today. Yep, they still make my nose run and my eyes water.
They have all kinds of other nuts too. But the Cajun peanuts are what we're after. And $13 or so for a 5-pound bag is a bargain to us.
Just thought I'd pass this along, in case anyone else wants to try them. No affiliate link or anything.
Virginia Peanuts - Products Made in Virginia - Virginia Favorites, Ltd.
They have every kind, but the spicy ones are here:
Virginia Peanuts - gourmet, roasted, raw, boiled, cajun, salted, unsalted varieties
(Look for the Cajun roasted ones towards the bottom).
If you order the 5 lb bags, you get two 2.5 bags in their sack.
We just ordered 10 lbs, and looks like we'll be drinking milk and eating bread for some time to come to kill the sting! (Ok, they're not THAT bad, but every time I say that, I get that ONE peanut...)
My wife's gonna bring a 2.5 bag to work tomorrow. I can't wait for her co-workers to call me up and curse me out (although they should know better by now... they told US about them, and we've been though this before)!
