I've actually been speaking with my Dad about this. He's an Electrical Engineer, and not one to be easily swayed by hype. In fact, I had a cousin who was trying to sell him on an "atomizer" type device for years that he said was bunk, so I trust his judgment on these sorts of things.

He says it seems to be sound theoretically, and actually might try it out on his gas-guzzling Jaguar.

I'll let you know the results.

One of the top selling products on clickbank is a how to convert your car to run on water product:

water4gas.com

Gravity of close to 700 (that's 700 affiliate sales in the last 2 months or so) and an alexa rank of 18k.

I reckon they're doing alright

They had this on mythbusters.

You have no idea how much energy it takes to effectively turn water into hydrogen...the car just won't produce enough electricity.

And once you accomplish that, the gas itself is highly flamable...more so than gas. It's a good way to turn your car into a fireball.

Would would the oil companies think if we just go out back and pump our own fuel.

And to think, they're hauling all that oil from half way around the world.

Kinda hard to believe, but for the price they're charging for the info, I'm sure there's people willing to buy the product.

This is absolutely bunk. As someone said... the mythbusters ran a whole special on every conceivable bunko piece of crap. None worked... and some actually made gas mileage worse.

The only real effective "do it yourself" alternative fuel we have is french fry oil. I know a guy here on the east coast who's been burning used french fry oil in his diesel mercedes for over 2 years.

The best part is it works right out of the box... no conversion needed. Just find yourself a steady supply of old fryer oil (He has a deal with a dozen or so chick-fil-a's)... filter it 2 or 3 times, and put it in your gas tank.

And... he gets 30+ miles per gallon on free fuel.

The downside to this is... You know if millions strarted doing this, the oil would no longer be free.

Refering to the hydrogen - I remember fooling with that stuff in grade school. Me and my brother used to make little baloon bombs. It was good clean fun. But once you start talking about running an engine with it, someone could get hurt.

When I worked at KFC (before they changed their name to those initials) 30 years ago, we had our used oil in the back of the building in a 55 gallon drum. Had it stolen a few times, so it was worth recycling even then. I've read that thefts of the stuff are on the rise since gasoline has risen.

I also read (years ago) about a modification that allowed a car to run on chicken droppings.
