Default How long do you spend a day at your computer? - 05-10-2008, 09:06 AM

Howdy doody,

I thought this would be an interesting discussion so here goes.

How long do you spend at your computer per day, working or otherwise?

For me I'm glued to my laptop for the better part of 16 hours a day.

Weekends less.

What about y'all?

LOL Mr Subtle.

Blimey Sarah, I've just working it out - and like you - it's about 16 hours a day.

Some days are a bit less when I'm seeing clients.

So should we all go and find a good chiropractor?

My business is on-line based, so between that and business record keeping, which is all on computer I'm in front of my PC 12 to 14 hours a day--7 days a week.

However, I do "steal" some time during the late day/early evening to go to supper a couple times per week and spending some time building my new train layout.

I don't allow myself to work more then one hour per day, and usually screw off for about two hours per day browsing forums, watching videos, and reading random tid bits.

I find if I work more then one hour I just get frustrated and the quality of the work drastically goes down.

I live on the computer. I am Neo. I took the red pill. I'm a millionaire. So be it.

p.s which translates into, about 12-16 hours a day. maybe I'll get a life again after this 20-year addiction to money and wealth passes. sad but true MrS re the graphic. I have no analog friends.

It's not a question of how long you spend on yr computer but how long you spend on your passion. Yr computer is merely a medium

"analog friends" ... never heard that one before ... like it a lot!!

Personally, time in front of the PC -- about 12-14 hours most weekdays, half that on weekends. Some days are less (client meetings, go out to weekly Rotary meeting, random days off, a week off for a conference like I've just had this week).

I'm about to start having 1-2 weekdays off per month for golf, photography, book store visits etc. I also just got a wireless internet connection to take anywhere, so I'll spend some days with the laptop in different surroundings (library, cafe, clients) for a different environment as well.

Good Post

After reading the replies so far I'm starting to feel a little better about myself!

I've spent most of my life working away from home with a fixed beginning - middle - and end to my days. For years I averaged 10-12 hrs away then 2 at home on the computer/paper work.

Funny how things can change.

I have been transitioning to IM for the past year and when I'm not 'out working', I'm home on the computer for and easy 12-16 hrs a day.

Odd thing is.... when working from the computer - even for 14-16 hrs - I never feel like I get as much done as I should...

My wife thinks I'm sick... hehe...

Michael and Dean made a very good point...

After endless hours on the computer - they then have fun with their hobbies.

So what hobbies do the rest of us have - when we've finished working?

Also Johnson made a perfect comment - we would only EVER spend 16 plus hours on the "machine" because we are so passionate about our work.
