How long do you spend at your computer per day, working or otherwise?

For me I'm glued to my laptop for the better part of 16 hours a day.

Weekends less.

What about y'all?
As many hours as possible ... usually until my eyes give out for the day, or I can't stay awake any longer ... whichever comes first.

Sometimes "real life" gets in the way, though, and I'm forced to break away.

I guess one of the main reasons for starting this thread was to indicate to noobs that freelance copywriting isn't as relaxed and chilled as many of today's 'courses' make it sound.

'Work whenever you want to!'

It's not as simple as that. If you want to work as a copywriter, you have to make the effort to market yourself.

It's like one wise person once said, being a copywriter isn't about being a copywriter as much as it's about being a marketer. Once you know how to market yourself, then you can get on with being a copywriter.

And it takes a lot of time and effort to become a self-marketer.

Personally, I wouldn't have it any different. I spend so much time on the ol' laptop cos I love what I do, every aspect of it.

But I admit I do have to drag myself away from it sometimes to make sure I'm spending enough time with family and friends and covering important duties and not being totally sucked into cyberspace!

Monday thru Friday: 12 hrs. minimum.
Sat & Sunday: approx: 4 hrs.
Any more than that the family gets real pissy -- and they absolutely hate when I take the laptop along on vacations (lots of fights). But when I tell them it's what pays for the fun they sorta calm down.

We're living a parallel existence, Barry. I promise my wife 2 nights a week to go be something other than a mom. But any moment that I'm not with family is right here.

I love my work. But, I am thankful for spending my 20s technology free, touring the country and feeling every breeze. Oh, what I would have missed had there been WiFi back then.

Geez I'd love to do 12 hours a day, but as soon as my other half gets home I feel too guilty to keep working. And I'm not even put under pressure... I just don't want to ignore her.

And she's only away for 9 hours a day! I'd say I probably get about 6 hours of quality work done a day.

It all depends. But if I am at home, and awake, 99% of the time I am on my computer. I should be much more successful, but I need to work on my productivity skills so all that time is not wasted researching.

Props to you for manning-up and admitting the dirty little secret that most of us share... the fact is that we aren't as productive as we could be. What keeps all of us from achieving even greater success, isn't a lack of knowledge-- we're all probably on overload when it comes to knowledge about copywriting and marketing in general.

And it's not because we're lazy. I think most like to work... like to be busy.

But, we work on the wrong things. Instead of testing ideas and grinding down a list of concepts and business ideas into a fine point of maybe one or two things that can be incredible money-makers... we stay busy, "learning"-- hoping we uncover that gold nugget that will keep us from having to work hard and/or spend our money on testing procedures for our various concepts and ideas.

Until last week I can say, for definite, too long.

I'm sure it must have been more than 24 hours a day.

Then I realised that I probably actually get only about an hour's work done... the rest is surfing time.

Like Mark Joyner said, "a computer attached to the internet is the biggest distraction in history," or words to that effect.

A few days ago, I decided enough is enough and keep away from the computer and get other things done.

And, you know what?

I feel a heck of a lot better for it.

I realise now that it was a true addiction and I was only on there all that time as I thoughtI HAD to be there to make it online... to achieve something.

With that said, this is my last post of the day/night... or whatever it is on Krypton.

Adios.

About 10 hours. Spend too much time reading eBooks and online!
