Default Wordpress theme validation errors - 05-06-2008, 05:03 PM

I've been trying to put a blog together and the installation was the easy part.

I can't seem to find a theme that I like that is both written in English and validates with no errors.

The first theme I liked was mostly in German. I can't edit what I can't understand.

The second theme had 1 CSS error and 8 XHTML errors.

The third, had 2 CSS and 17 XHTML errors.

Might want to check out http://www.styleshout.com/cms-blog-themes.php

"Higherground" is my favorite and easily modified to get a unique look.

Steve

Oh, man. I had no idea this thread was created! It does seem to just end without making much sense doesn't it?

Earlier today, I was trying to edit and add more info and pressed [enter] by accident and things just sorta locked up so I just closed my browser. So I thought.

Anyway, thanks for the link. I'll check it right away. Basically I'm just trying to get a website up using wordpress, but not using it like a traditional blog where people are free to post and such.

Like an old-school website with the ease and plugin-ability of wordpress.

I just want a nice looking theme written in English, that is properly coded, and things actually line up the way they should. I'm not having much luck.

I'm gonna learn some php I think regardless, and brush up on my CSS. I like to be at least able to "talk the talk" - even on stuff I might outsource.

I don't know if your still looking for a theme, but here's quite a few:

Smashing Magazine 100 themes

I also don't know how many validate, but there's plenty of high quality ones.

Ron, thanks for the link.

I've noticed since creating this thread that some of my favorite blogs don't validate. I had just downloaded the developer toolbar for Firefox and perhaps I'm getting carried away with the html/css validation options on it.

I'm really just learning wordpress and looking for something I can edit easily that will also look professional.

Thanks again, that site shows some great looking themes. I'll spend some time looking it over.

For a few recent projects, I've started with this valid theme:

GlossyBlue

and hacked away rather extensively for it to suit my projects (eg, adjustments to colors, column widths in footer area, removal of many of the little icons used throughout, css font settings etc).

The other n.design studio theme on that site available to use (iTheme) even has draggable sidebar components.

Cheers,

Any time... One of the better resources I've found for themes.

Actually I need to thank you. Until I read this thread, I had never thought about validating my blogs. DUH! I've done if on my sites, but not the blogs. Maybe I was just believing the designer did it "right".

I am no WP expert, CSS either for that matter, but once I started editing my theme's, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. If you look at theme templates, they are really just numerous calls to WP functions. You can take them out, replace them and sometimes change them.

Most every theme I get, I change a good part of it, most are not very well SEO'ed fr my tastes, plus I like to change the look as much as I can. My only problem is the CSS. I can do the basic's but when it comes to CSS layout, I can't always get the theme's to do what I want.

Even though it's obvious, the best place to get help editing your theme's is wordpress.org. Everything I've searched for, I've found a solution. So many very helpful people there.
