Cool Stop Buying IM Products! - 04-24-2008, 03:31 PM

This is a rant.

It's in response to an email I got from someone who wants to come
to a seminar I'm giving and...

he's maxed out his credit cards so he wants me to comp him and...
send him a plane ticket.

I didn't ask whether he wanted to stay with me as well or he could
handle the hotel.

On the one hand, you've got to admire the guy for chutzpah.

On the other hand, the reason he's maxed out is because...

He keeps buying IM products.

Now I buy a whole bunch of IM stuff and - with few exceptions - most of them do what they promise.

And if he already has shelves full of DVDs (as he said) what more does he need to make more except...

To take action.

I don't care whose product you've bought. Frank Reese, Jeff Filsame, Shawn Schefren, or whomever.

All of them work.

If you use them.

And for heavens sake, there's so much detailed FREE info out there on WF, Youtube, Google videos, etc...

And Ed Dale keeps giving away the store.

So please. Don't over spend.

Use what you've bought. Get those DVDs down off the shelf.

Now I know some people like Dan Kennedy actually recommend taking someone's last dollar (listen to his Wealth Appreciation set before you jump on me).

But I don't think that's fair.

Use the darn stuff.

And if not. Stop buying new stuff.

Your family deserves better.

Peace.

Harlan

Wish I had someone tell me this before it was too late.

Advice for every newbie to live by.

And some not-so newbies.

That's all wrong. You should never stop buying IM products. Because if you take action, you'll get back everything you spent and more.

And if you don't take action, you're still helping the economy and putting money in someone's pocket, even if it isn't your own.

Let's cut the crap.

Harlan is the only one who has made sense here.

If anyone says anything against druggies or alkies, people jump down their throats...

It's a real problem, they'll say, genuine.

I know, I've had people pick me up on these issues here on this very board.

But, mention the same thing about buying too many IM courses, and you get the jokers out.

Well, I can tell you for a fact, from experience, when you don't know what the f**k you're doing, it's easy to get taken in by snake oil sales men.

And, even if they're genuine, it's not always easy to 'get going', no matter how many courses you have.

Heck, just over the last week I've heard gurus say how important it is to have a mentor to become successful.

Apparently, the majority of successful entrepreneurs on the net have had mentors.

The funny thing is, I never heard that mentioned too many times before I got to a certain stage.

And, by that time, I'd already spent a king's ransom on IM course.

I've literally had information overload... something which actually prevented me from taking action.

I wish I had someone tell me exactly whay Harlan has just said a long time ago; it may have saved me a LOT of money.

So, if you feel that it;s okay to ridicule people for not knowing what to do, then I lead the way by saying...

There's no such thing as alcohol problems, or drug problems, or any problems.

It's down to the individuals and it's their fault entirely for allowing themselves to get into that situation.

Don't like that?

Then lay off and stop being pr*ts.

IT'S NOT FUNNY!!!

MY RANT OVER.

Lighten up, I wasn't picking on you...I was making light of the fact that a buyer, is a buyer, is a buyer...

I have spent a fortune on information, and I am an addict to self-help, marketing, and sales info. I practice the concept of the slight edge. And people who rip off others should be toasted on a spit....But as for people who don't act on the info they buy, that is their problem.. I am guilty of that on a percentage of what I buy. But the percentage I act on is enough to more that pay for the rest....

Exactly my point.

It's easy to 'make light' of this situation.

Kind of like 'a drinker is a drinker is a drinker'...

Or ' a druggie is a druggie is a druggie'.

Maybe they should just stop drinking, or taking drugs?

Get my drift?

Peace, I have no fight with you...

As someone who quit drinking cold turkey at the age of 41 (after hitting my lifetime limit halfway through my life!) I receognize that that was MY problem as well. And it was up to me to solve it. And I did, and in October I'll hit 5 years sober. People who are addicted to more information products, and there are many, are getting the buzz from the buying action, and not from the implementation part of the equation.

Most people know that you can't become an NFL caliber football player by buying information and just watching dvds. They know it takes action.

Many information products provide HUGE shortcuts and step-by-step systems to accomplish things. And many include provisions for people to ask specific questions of the guru that pertain to their circumstance.

As Dave Lakhani says, "Money follows action..." and no kidding I just had a priority mail box with two new information products arrive as I was typing this...

Hey Rob, it's not you, it's just a general thing.

I've seen this so many times where people don't seem to realize it is a problem... and it's not necessarily an addiction as much as desperation tog et something going... and clutching at ever straw in an attempt to find the 'holy grail'.

Only recently I've found a course where the guys who are doing it are genuinely, in my view, out to help.

Why do I say that?

Because, 1. it didn't cost me the earth. 2. There are things in this course that are so obviously missing from the other, more expensive ones. I get the feeling they're holding back.

And the other thing with these guys is that I've actually spoken to one of them by phone only a couple of days ago.

Why do I mention this?

Because when I first started out, I got on one of these 'guru's' coaching course, only to find they were outsourcing their training to a third party.

About a couple of months ago, another similar thing happened... almost.

See, the guys who supposedly run this course are, supposedly, very good and very helpful (they have loads of testimonials... I'm losing faith in them, as well).

So, I called them up and spoke to a guy... and the first thing I asked was if they were actually those guys or an outsourcing company.

The guy admitted they are an outsourcing company.

Worse still, later I found that they are the same, useless, outsourcing company I first had the misfortune to deal with when I started out.

They had gained such a bad rep, that they changed their name and formed a new company.

Can you believe that?

So, my advice to newbies is this, if you do go for a coaching program, make sure it is being run by the guys who are claiming it's their program... Just ask them.

And, don't believe everything the sales letter says... a lot of them are full of lies.

I guess not everyone has the integrity of a Bencivenga, Makepeace or Carlton.

Although I have a lot more faith in copywriters as opposed to internet marketers.

Rezbi,

I have to tell you. I've been making fun of IM buyers, along with seminar addicts, for years. And I just don't intend to quit. It's not directed at you, or anyone for that matter. And yes, I also make fun of druggies. Drunks. Gambling addicts. Porn addicts. Smokers. Domainers. And a host of others. Yes, I fit into one or more of those categories, and I fully understand the pain involved. But you have to joke about it. You just have to, or go crazy.
