Default What a Women Should Know about Web Design - 01-03-2008, 02:15 PM

My wife just called and said she wanted to learn how to create a web site. Her friend just created one for her home business and my wife now wants to create one just for personal stuff. She'll probably post pics of the dogs.

Where should she start?

When I learned, it was back in the days of HTML only. Nowadays, HTML is important but blogs are where it's at.

I was going to recommend she get familiar with HTML and move on to WordPress.

Do you think that's a good starting point?

Thanks!

You can't go wrong with wordpress WordPress › Blog Tool and Weblog Platform

for something even more "comprehensive"... try Joomla

Joomla!

I'm having a love affair with Joomla. I've dumped just about every other system. I also like the shopping cart choices that you can get with it.

yup...

My 9 year old daughter has her own joomla site.

She's been watching the joomla tutorial videos I bought and doing it herself.

Pretty cool.

Eric,

I see your main copy is bumped right up against the walls -- if you figure out how to edit/increase margin/padding in the CSS let me know. I'm in the same boat. We just started evolving a site with joomla at www.marocom.com - Home

Found it JP...

If you're using the default template, this is the part you want to change:

table td.body_outer

Hi.

The easiest way I know of to start is to go to typepad and start a blog. Easy, easy, easy. Easier than wordpress.

Best,

No offense Valerie -- but I WOULD NEVER recommend that to anyone.

Please see what fellow cwboard member, Ryan Healy, just wrote about this on his OLD blog. Why he's moving FROM typepad to wordpress.

On Copywriting

He also mentions how Seth Godin says "going with typepad" was one of the WORST decisions he ever made.
