Default Interesting business - 10-20-2007, 02:19 PM

I found this in a USA Today newspaper story (Friday October 19, 2007, pg. 7A) about the drought problems in the Southeast U.S.

Buried in the story...

"John Imand of Gaffney, S.C., doesn't mind the drought. His business, Always Green Grass Painting, paints the lawns of homes and businesses for $250-$700 and has spread to a dozen franchises."

Good for him to be linked to this news story. He also has a "As Seen On" video on his homepage.

I'm not sure if a sound business model is built when it depends on drought for success.

This is SO 1988!

Showing just how behind the times, the south is...

In Cali, we know drought! Afterall, LA country has been in and out of drought for at least 20 years. When I first moved there we were in drought. At first, the beverly hills people would just water their lawns and pay the fines. Then the police got serious and like multiplied the fine with each offense.

It then became less than cost effective for the serial waterers to ply their underhandedness...

Then along came some guy who worked in set decoration. He started what soon became a multi-milliion dollar business spray painting lawns.

And as you'd expect... 19 years later, Georgia would catch on! ;0

Neb, It's not totally dependent on drought. Even with normal amounts of rain, the population explosion down there is causing concern. I have relatives in Alabama and they tell me that local and state governments throughout the region are increasingly pursuing legal action in regards to water rights. The rivers and lakes, even at normal levels, can only provide water for so many people (or "folk" as they say down there).

Vin, the Deep South is behind in a lot of things.
