A college biology teacher told me that every cell in the body is replaced within seven years. So I'm pretty young. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
Here's a poem/free verse I wrote called "New Longer":
I'm not older
Never have been.
I've got experience
That's true.
But every day is different
And so am I.
I got new pains
And new joys.
I've been doing it
Longer than some.
But it's all new.
No, I'm not older;
I'm new longer.

You can share this with others if you want so long as my name is included.
I've learned a lot in those 31 years. Mainly by messing up more
times than I care to admit. Of course, I have a lot more to
learn in the next 31 years.
On my birthday, I sat down and made a list of a few of the things
I've learned. Here's my list. Stuff that seems obvious NOW, but
I wish I had known earlier.
1. There are no "secrets" to making it.
2. It's a whole lot easier to "make it" when you take the time to
figure out exactly what YOU want. That means you start ignoring
all the other people who try to tell you what you should want.
3. When you have money, it's easy to say, "It's not about the
money." Because it isn't. How you view money seems to change
when you actually have some sitting around. But when it leaves
(even temporarily), almost everything goes back to being "about
the money." It's still not about the money, it's just much
harder to remember that during those times.
4. Every man/woman is out there for himself or herself. It
sounds harsh. But it's just human nature. To expect otherwise
is gonna get you into trouble. Success comes when you figure out
how to use human nature to your advantage.
5. Nothing is ever quite what you think it will be before you get
it. So don't spend time climbing a mountain because you think
you want what's at the top. Spend time climbing the mountain
because you like climbing mountains.
6. You will find success very quickly after you stop listening to
everyone else who's willing to tell you where it's hiding.
7. You're not working to get somewhere--to "make it." Or to get
to the end of the "struggle." The struggle is what makes getting
up every day worth it.
8. Don't listen to what people say. Talking is free. Watch what
they DO. That's all that matters.
9. When things are tough, worrying won't help. When things are
good, worrying won't help. Enjoy the journey either way. Don't
worry.
10. "You can get what you want if you help enough other people
get what they want," doesn't seem to be quite right... It takes
a whole lot more than just helping people to be successful.
That's just one small piece of it.
11. Just enjoy the journey. It's all yours.
