Exclamation Do you have that Killer instinct? - 05-25-2007, 04:49 PM

I would like to learn more about what motivates the board members and I'm sure others would too.

So I have composed a few questions, and it would be great if you could answer them in the order presented. If you have some great stories share them with the board!

What drives you?
Is there someone or something that inspired you to do well? God perhaps or someone you look up to and aspire to be like.

How hungry are you for success?
Can you share with us some great stories of unusual lengths you've gone to to secure a contract? Something that demonstrates YOUR killer CW instinct!

Are you in this race to win?

Do you see yourself in competition with other members of this board or just other CW's off the board? Perhaps you are not competative at all. Do you have any stories of how your competative drive has won/cost you friendships or won/lost you respect?

How much to you enjoy what you do?
Tell us how much it means to you to be a successful CW.

Thanks in advance

I look forward to some interesting reads!

I shall begin

What drives you?
I was very inspired by my Mum and my Gran. Two very strong independant females who could do things themselves. I am thinking now not just re work, but hanging wall paper, carpet fitting, fixing the car. That kind of thing. I was not naturally independant but my mother forced it upon me and it put me in good stead.

I drove myself for years and now my motivating force is my children. I am happy with very little but I want them to have choices and options and feel this can be better achieved with financial backing.

How hungry are you for success?
I have done some odd things to get a sale in the past. I'll get back to you on this one as too many stories and I need to find one suitable.

Are you in this race to win?

I have always been a competative person even in circumstances where to compete almost guarrantees failure as I may not be talented in the area of competition. For example school sports. It took me three years to get into the netball team. I'd go to every practice, apply every term to get on the team and be rejected. But I carried on, I believed I was great and they were just not looking properly Anyway after 3 yrs I eventually got Wing Defence position. Not exactly a strarring role but good enough. After this I was in every team, hockey, basket ball, rounders. Getting on THAT netball team was the key to all the others. We were a secret club and once IN you were always IN.

At work, if I worked with others. I'd compete with them silently and when alone I'd compete with myself. I'd set targets and then endeavour to beat them. I'd be bored rigid otherwise.

How much do you enjoy what you do?
If it is creative, spotaneous and not regimented I enjoy it. I'm enjoying my life very much at present.

Leah, people have the right NOT to respond to your thread.

Its happened to me on several occassions.

It happens to everyone, at one time or another.

The reasons vary as to why.

Some threads just don't strike a chord in people.

We can't always hit a homerun.

And sometimes people just don't want to discuss certain things about themselves.

I've also seen threads start off dead like this one and then come to life later on.

So relax, it's still early in the game.

You can't force these things.

Dale King

No one is denying anyone their rights Dale.
I would have thought though with all the 'greats' on here that it would be nice to hear what sets them apart. Not a lot it seems.

I can see from your tone that you've totally misinterpreted my intentions, so I'll leave you to your own devices.

Since you started the ball rolling with your own interesting account, I will follw suit.

What drives you?

I would say writing is my best skill, and I was given the subliminal message from the age of 4 to somehow pursue that path. It's been a long battle to figure out how to use this skill and not starve in the interim.

I was not raised to be practical or business savvy, but I do have an independent, headstrong streak and I am a risk taker. I am driven by the need to use my best skill (I suck at so many other "jobs"), and be my own boss. I love the solitude and being in my own space.

Not working in a fleurescent office with a bunch of noisy cubicles is another driving force.

How hungry are you for success?

I don't see it myself, but others around me see the struggle I have gone through figuring out the ropes as I go along--and they think I am both crazy and determined. Is that hungry for success? Mebbe.

Are you in this race to win?

I am covertly competitive, I think. I don't like to admit I am competitive, but I think deep down I am. As far as cw goes, I still think I have a lot to learn, so I don't view the other CWs here as competition. Just an excellent resource for exchange of ideas etc. When it comes to writing of any kind, I've tended to compete against myself. Set my own standard and make sure I meet it.

I generally don't measure myself against another writer to see if I am better or worse than he or she is.

How much to you enjoy what you do?

I love writing. And I love doing a great job for clients. When they are happy, I am ecstatic. I enjoy being valued.

I am even enjoying the process of learning to be tougher with difficult clients. All of it is a learning process...even when it is simply about learning about a new product or service. Keeps my mind stimulated.
