Default Converting Your Audio Library to Digital - 04-16-2007, 01:35 AM

I have collected numerous tape recordings of teleseminars and self-improvement tapes over the years. I'd like to convert tapes and LP's to digital mp3 files. I'd also like to record teleseminars and webinars directly to my computer rather than recording on a tape cassette and then converting to mp3's.

I know that there are numerous programs to choose from to do this. What are some programs that you've had good luck with?

Thanks.

Rob

You can use Creative's Sound Blaster Connect.

It is an external USB driven controller/adaptor (little white box) that allows you to connect your Hi-Fi system to your PC. Software is included that allows you to then take your analog audio (cassetes or records) and transform them into CDs or MP3 through your PC.

It was easy to set up, cables were included, and only cost me something like 40 euro. I use it mostly to playback my MP3 music on my PC through to my very nice amp and speakers. But I will also be playing a lot of my older music from my hi-fi to my PC to archive it all digitally.

Hope that helps,

Tim

I've always used Music Match Jukebox for such things. Doesn't come with a kit or anything, it's just a program. You'll have to know how to hook you PC up to your stereo.

I've got it, You need it, I'm selling it at:

here's what I do -- I'm converting right now.

1. I spent $38 and bought WavePad (free trial at WavePad - Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com)

2. went to Radio Shack and bought a cassette player/recorder. I also use it for dictation on full-size cassettes. must have an ear piece input.

3. buy a power adapter - power cord for it.

4. tell the kid/guy, you want to hook the cassette recorder to your computer. He'll sell you a cable for $15 that connects the two.

5. Plug one end of cable into your microphone input on your computer.

6. plug the other end into the ear piece input on the cassette player.

7. open wavepad. Choose Microphone as the input device when recording.

8. press play - press record.

9. that's it. when the tape is over, save as mp3.

Sample cassette players:

- RadioShack.com - Home & Office: Voice recorders: Coby® CX-R55 Voice Activated Cassette Recorder

- RadioShack.com - Home & Office: Voice recorders: Auto-Level Cassette Recorder with Cue/Review

Cables:
RadioShack.com - Cables, Parts & Connectors: A/V cables: Patch cables: 6-Ft. RadioShack Gold Series RCA Audio Cable

Good Luck
MikeC

Hey Rob,

I've been doing this for years pretty much the way MikeC described the process, except I used my old cassette walkman and a cheap piece of software the put out by Microsoft called Plus! Digital Media Edition. It's $15 for the software and comes with tools to remove pops and hisses from analog recordings and it's really simple to use.

I got a 6' mini to mini jack cable at Radio Shack for about $10 and I was in business.
