How about writing some recipes from, say, a chef?

I would recommend spending time on various cooking, food, and restaurant industry-related forums. See what piques your interest as it relates to your domain name. Brain-dump your ideas on a dry erase board or a big sheet of paper. Then narrow your idea, refine it, develop a plan, and rock 'n roll.

Here's an article on finding new website ideas.

No one is going to hand you your award-winning idea on a platter (not trying to sound rude, sorry if I do!!!) it's one of those things you need to brainstorm... open your mind to... just chew on it. Once you've sorted it out in your head and on paper, run with it.

Remember, the WORST thing you can do is NOTHING. Inactivity earns you $0. Do not wait for the "perfect" idea or the "perfect" content -- pick a direction and ACT ON IT. Put something up. It can always be improved/changed later.

Good luck!!! And HAVE FUN!!!

Bailey

Paul,
As far as content goes...

I would create videos showing how to do specific recipes... like a cooking show you watch on TV.

You could put these videos on google and get a ton of traffic from it.

Wow... Stephen, I think that's a great idea.

You know I've been working on video right now. Doing Video squeeze pages for a couple clients as well as entirely separate videos we're hoping will go viral.

But... for recipes (something that while tangible, is almost intangible, if that makes sense) I think video can be huge!

One note: If you're going to shoot cooking video... even cheaply... don't forget the overhead 4 burner shot. Can't do a proper demonstration without it.

My girlfriend and I were thinking about doing a
vegetarian cooking show. I figured one of the
biggest reasons people can't make the switch
to being a vegetarian is they just don't know what
to cook.

So, for $9.95 a month, you get videos of a new
recipe each week and access to all the recipes in
the archive.

At such a low price point I imagine the retention
of customers would be pretty darn good.

Video is a great medium in this niche. And it's
pretty easy!

This idea rocks....probably work in a few niches

I watched a cooking show and made the recipe they showed. It was a very tasty lomein.
My wife and kids commented on how much they liked it.
I have made it 10 times since and couldn't get it the same.
I know something is different but I don't know what.
If I had access to that show again I would definitely want to watch it.

It was a "how to make a great meal in less than 30 minutes"

Also, people who love to cook and test new meals, like I do, would be great candidates. I make it a point to test a new dish at least on every holiday.

anyways...great idea and nice brainstorm.

What type of restaurant business are you in? Are you looking to keep it closely related to your specialty or explore different areas?

If you're a owner in a large city, you could use the video ideas suggested to make yourself a local celebrity. You'll be the go-to guy for cooking tips and recipes and customers will be driven to your restaurant. Just a thought.

And Jason, not that I'd ever become a complete vegetarian (grew up raising livestock... love my steak and pork chops), but not knowing how or what to make is the reason I don't eat as many veggies as I probably should. Sounds like a solid idea worth trying.
