Default Is Think and Grow Rich in Public Domain? - 02-08-2007, 11:05 AM

Title says it all. If so, can someone provide a link?

Thanks!

The title doesn't say it all to me. Are you looking for a free copy of the book, "Think and Grow Rich"?

If so, a quick search led me here:

Right, I did find some copies you could download, but I wanted to know if it was in the public domain. People post all sorts of things without it being legal. So I wanted to check before I sent out a copy to some people.

I was wondering how that worked myself. What does it mean to be "in the public domain". How do people get permission to offer free downloads of published books that are still being sold elsewhere?

Can I now offer it on my website?

Also, how did Michel Fortin get permission to offer Claude Hopkins' Scientific Advertising free online?

Scientific Advertising by Claude Hopkins - Table Of Contents

That one is a little different since it can't be downloaded (as far as I can tell).

Scientific Advertising IS in the public domain. I also have it on my site for download.

Not sure about TAGR, though.

Public domain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It looks like the original 1937 version by Napoleon Hill is in the public domain now. At my local Barnes & Noble, I found about ten different "revised" and/or "expanded" versions which people have copyrighted in their own names (while keeping Hill's name on the cover). But apparently the original version is fair game.

I believe once the book has been out 95 years it goes into "public domain". That means anyone has the right to print and distribute it and possibly make money from it.

So if it truly is in the public domain you could offer it on your website. You could sell it there too, but most people choose to "revise" it or add an introduction so it becomes updated.

I wanted to add a link to a summary of the law regarding copyright terms and when works can enter public domain, but since this is my first post, I cannot do that. So, I will describe the link... The page can be found at
copyright dot cornell dot edu slash public_domain

Here's a chart you should find helpful:

WHEN WORKS PASS INTO THE PUBLIC DOMAIN
