Default Blog Settings for SEO - 12-12-2006, 04:10 PM

I have a blog where, like Michel's, it shows the first few paragraphs of each post on the main page. If you want to read the whole thing you click on "continue" and you will be presented with the whole article.

On the second page, I have Adsense blocks... Has anyone tested if adding Adsense hurts search engine ranking?

Would I get more pages listed if they weren't monitized in this manner?

And another question...

Right now my blog is set up so that once you click "continue" it shows the entire article (no comments). There is a link to "comments" which is another page which has the full article, comments, and comment input form.

I did this (by accident) but now I am wondering if it is good or bad. The pages all have different titles but contain a lot of the same content.

Never mind! I am giving up on my blog system. (More about this later).

Brian, I assume you're talking about your front page. It's fine that you have excerpts leading to articles. But I would link to more article pages or the comments section using the blog's simple pagination rules. Here's an article on this:

SEO Egghead by Jaimie Sirovich » Stop SEO Death By Pagination

As far as adsense goes, I have found that adding them is benign or negligible. In fact, adding adsense forces google to crawl your blog.

Well, I had specific issues related to the way that EE was designed. It made sense from a publishers point of view but not from a marketers point of view.

I've given up trying to kludge their architecture in an attempt to make it more SEO friendly.

They are more interested in reinventing things like bulletin board software than things like Google sitemaps, social tag support, and clean URLs.

My head hurts just thinking about it all.
