Mr. Subtle all I can say is summed up in one word, "wow!".
I had no idea Google valued any forum so highly.
I've not come here "trolling" but to learn from those of you with greater experience.
In fact, over the weekend I started taking points from many of the posts about getting clients, improving
seo rank, etc and adding them to mind maps. If there are no interruptions in my week I hope by friday to have collected enough stuff to get busy with an actionable game plan based on what members have found effective.
How much of it will I try? All of it.
Just like Mr. Morgan said, we need to put multiple lines out there.
Anyhow, I've lurked here for the better part of a year and have NEVER posted an article to the forum. Why?
Intimidation.
There are way too many people here who know far more than me and I'd imagine short of any independent surveys I might conduct, much of what I find out someone here (probably almost everyone here) already knew.
I'm sure that'll change in the future though.
Nonetheless your post makes it blatantly obvious that leaving this board IS a mistake for anyone serious about marketing their business. Either from a promotional standpoint or from an educational one.
Without naming names or throwing mud at anyone in partiicular, I hope the lesson learned from all this is to maintain professionalism and avoid getting heated in forums. No one benefits from anger or hostility -- even when provoked.
More than once I've put my foot in my mouth online and wished I could roll back time.
I recall telling a nationally known author never to email or phone me ever again because of trying to manipulate me into doing major consulting work for free -- right after telling me how they ripped off another consultant and swiped all their stuff without paying.
Not that telling the author to go away was bad, it's the way I handled it. If I could ever take back words I would. I burned that bridge and can never use that person as a referral source or as a testimonial for work I did do.
My loss.
There's a lesson here for all of us to remain professional at all times and not to burn bridges. No matter how others behave online.
Thanks Mr. Subtle for going to so much effort to show all of us the value of staying here -- and participating.
Andre
