Default Name That Sales Movie! - 09-04-2006, 02:51 PM

Okay guys, let's play a little game. What actor said the following in what movie?

Quote:
Who are you? What's your name? F_ _k you, that's my name. You know why? Cause you drove a Hyundai to get here tonight and I drove an eighty thousand dollar BMW. THAT'S my name. You see this watch. This watch cost more than your car. I made $970,000 dollars last year how much did you make? You see pal, that's who I am and you're nothing. Nice guy? I dont give a sh _t. Good father? F_ _k you. Go home and play with your kids. You wanna work here--close.

Michel:

It was a two-part question. I know you know the answer, but I need you to complete the answer.

What actor said the dialogue?

Quick somebody, beat Michel to the punch!

Glengarry was one of those movies we were taught to watch, when I started out in my sales career. I first heard of it from my sales manager, and then from motivational speakers like Brian Tracy.

Other movies include...

Death of a Salesman
The Postman Always Ring Twice
The Big Kahuna
Fight Club
Tin Men
High Fidelity
Door to Door (with William H. Macy, the story of Bill Porter, the top salesman at Watkins who was first shun and surmounted impossible obstacles because of cerebral palsy -- awesome movie!!!)

That's a great list, Michel.

Let me ask you a question:

When you were in sales, did you ever use the "Columbo" close? If so, how did it work for you?

Yes, I did. several times. But not exactly the Columbo way (also known as the door-knob close). I used when I started to pack my things and asked questions while I was packing. (This was when I used to sell insurance.)

"Mr. Prospect, by the way, I appreciate you giving me an opportunity to see how we may serve you. Can you tell me, what was it about my presentation that confused you?" (Or "failed to inform you adequately for you to make an investment today?")

That worked, oh, about 6-7 times. But not all the time. I think I've tried it may 10-15 times. Can't remember. But I know the bulk of the successes came later in my sales career. At the beginning, I was a total loser. Couldn't sell my way out of a paper bag.

(Ah, those were the days...)
