Default Best Japanese Beer? - 07-30-2006, 12:18 PM

I'm conducting research for some copy I'm writing and need your input.

What is a great Japanese beer or alcoholic drink? My only experience is with umeshu, so I need some input about what's good and why.

Thanks!

Deb

Well of course there's the most famous alcoholic beverage in Japan... Saki. But as for Japanese beers, I know there's Asahi (I think it's called). And I know of Sapporo. But a quick google search shows many think Suntory Malt is the best. I've never heard of it.

Thanks!

I've Googled and can find the basic information, but I'm looking for personal recommendations.

For $200 I will take it upon myself to do an in-depth taste-testing research project.

PayPal's fine.

Hi Deb

I lived in Japan a while back. Ice cold Kirin Lager was my favourite beer - certainly compared very well to any I've enjoyed on the other four continents.

Sake is wonderful with a Japanese meal. It's often served warm out of a beautiful porcelain or pottery container with small, delicate cups to match. At one of the restaurants I miss most, we drank it cold out of a square wooden box filled to overflowing - delicious and refreshing in warmer weather.
Like wine, sakes ranges from the rough - what we would have called "plonk" - to much finer, smoother qualities.

O-cha, Japanese green tea, is served (hot) with most meals.

Hope that helps.

Janet
