Default The Apprentice Contest - 07-14-2006, 04:57 PM

Anyone remember this contest Mike and Matt ran?

I have to say that winning it has truly jump started my career. In the few months these two guys have really taken me under their wings and taught me how to actually be a copywriter.

I could always write... and was able to fake being able to sell, but I have to say I couldn't have done what I've done without them.

I've learned more in 3 months, hands on (while earning money) than from the entire AWAI course.

As of today my fees have increased to being 7 times the price of my first letter. If I could do 2 letters a month at my new rate, I'd be only 16,000 short of 6 figures. Not bad.

More than anything, I'm pleased to be treated as a professional by them.

During the run up to the contest, they were sure to let us know we'd be treated as their servant. Well, I have to blow the lid off this thing... They don't treat me like that at all.

Here's what I've done so far:

1. Wrote my diet letter that won the contest for me.
2. Matt paid me to write his letter.
3. Matt got me my first client for $1600.
4. Matt helped me deal with this unresonable client for far too long until he told me to let it go. "You did your job and wrote a good letter. This guy's a moron."
4. Mike paid me to write his letter.
5. Mike paid me to write an autoresponder series for one of his clients.
6. I helped Mike by crafting a little story for one of his "I can write a letter in 5 minutes" gigs.
7. Mike handed me a client letter to write that I'm working on right now.
8. Mike handed me my next client.

All this since March. Not bad for a skeptical hollywood writer guy.

Okay... why am I saying all this?

I have no idea if Mike and Matt will ever have the time to do this type of contest again, but any of you out there looking to take that next step, I urge you to urge them to do it again.

If they can do half as much for you as they did for me, it'll be worth it. They're good guys to work for... and with.

The only sad part is that when the summer ends, so does my apprenticship. We'll just have to see if I can make a living without them.

Or maybe... I'll just enter the contest again!!!! LOL
