Default tikibartv.com - excellent - 05-18-2006, 06:48 PM

check out that site, great art deco 50's theme site with 3 up and coming actors/actress.. watch clip 16 .. excellent micro broadcasting site...

http://www.tikibartv.com

what copywriting lessons learned are there, from a sheer enjoyability/watchability type angle? (and don't say "none" o grumpy ones lol)

gets a 10 out of 10 rating by me. And I'm gonna be making my living doing these kind of sites, for various niches.

this one's a winner. bigtime.

Since when was Art Deco in the 50s? (Think you'll find that was in the 20s and 30s dear).

It's kitsch 70s style, with some 50s graphics ==> ends up looking like a cheap porno from the 80s. Amusing nontheless.

I have no idea what they're selling, but the miniature story was fun!

Jane

PS The jokes about metrification (or metronisation or whatever they called it) ==> wuuuuhahahahahahahahahahahahah!

As if!! It wouldn't be so bad if Amerian imperial was the same as proper imperial but your pints are somewhat inferior my dears - ours are 568ml - what are yours?

It wasn't enough for you to bastardise the language, you had to bastardise the measurement system as well. I guess this is superior intelligence designed to thwart the commie bastards (like they do in Kuala Lumpar with the maps) - if they can't understand the measurement system, then they'll never figure out how much explosive to put in a bomb. Meanwhile, foreign tourists are buying pints of beer and wondering why they're not getting pissed!

Aaah, looks like Jane couldn't detox from putting down America. Just couldn't hold your tongue could you? Gotta slam us.

I love being from a place where beer isn't measured in pints, rather ounces.

Some of the local pubs say they pour "Imperial" pints, which they say is about 20 ounces, significantly more than the standard 16-ounce pint!

When I search for recipes online (which I do all the time), I have to avoid any written by or for the american market, because I simply don't understand them. I can't even guess at the proportions because they mix volumes with weights - neither of which I understand when they say stuff like "2 fluid ounces of milk and a dessertspoon of sugar". Because some American Imperial stuff is the same as ours, and some is different, and I have no idea which is which!

Metric really is easier, and thank god I didn't have to do maths or accounting using non-metric - can you imagine doing trigonometry on triangles that have a side that is 5 and a sixteenth inches long - NIGHTMARE!!

But I still don't understand why American Imperial is different to Imperial - ?????

Jane

PS TVWG - only cos it's so easy!

I cook regularly and I have yet to see a recipe call for a "dessert spoon" of sugar. Tablespoon, teaspoon, etc - yes. Those are standardized measurements. Most kitchens in the US have a set of measuring spoons and cups required to ensure accuracy of ingredient measurement.

Let's see. In the US most bars/pubs offer more than one size of beer glass/mug. There's the 16oz (fluid ounce), 20oz, and the 24oz. Most brewpubs seem to offer the 20oz as the standard size.

Then there is the growler. They actually come in many sizes.

Most of you probably aren't auto mechanics. I used to be some 23 years ago. Back then cars made by GM were a mixture of metric and standard bolts. Whoever decided to do this was a real nutcase. As a mechanic I preferred metric over standard everyday of the week. Much simpler to deal with.

I still deal with that on medical laboratory analyzers. The pieces made in Europe and Japan are metric and the pieces made here in the US are standard. It ensures you get to own and use twice as many tools.

I was just looking for my metric cheesegrater because I was going to eat some Mimolette cheese on my tacos. I couldn't find it so I told my wife to go buy some American cheese instead.

I'll send ya a metric cheese grater and and some metric cheese if you like - how about some parmigiana? That should survive the flight, although I'm not sure the pilot will once the smell of old socks permeates the cockpit!

Jane

PS OK, maybe dessert spoon is an Imperial measurement - just rest assured that I didn't make it up.

PPS You use the word "standard" - but that's my point. Amerian Imperial is not the same as Imperial - so what is standard?

Actually, being an italian american person I have to say I don't think there is such a thing as "parmigiana" cheese.

There is parmesean (In italian parmigiano)

Then there are baked italian dishes covered with mozzarella or provolone cheese mixed with parmesean, (and always sprinkled with oregano) that are called "parmigiana." As in... Eggplant Parmigiana, Veal Parmigiana, etc.

But to the best of my knowledge, there is no such animal as a "parmigiana cheese."

So I ask... what the hell are you brits doing screwing up my native language? Jeez, next thing you know you guys will start slapping tomato soup and chedder on a bisquit and call it pizza!

Freaking limey bastards!
