Errrrm, be really really careful with NASE. Although their plans look affordable, and have a nice low premium, if you actually price-out scenarios you will discover that the coverage is half-assed at best.
I used a recent example where I fell on some ice and broke my arm. It was not a terrible fracture, no surgery nor setting was required, but it was up at the elbow so some follow-up care was required. My bills totalled over $1800!
Under the NASE plan, they would have covered a maximum of $1000.
The NASE rep tried to tell me that $1800 for a broken arm was ludicrous and that my doctors must have been doing something wrong, that broken limbs just don't cost that much! I laughed in his face. I have broken my arms 3x in my adult life and the least one of them cost was $1200 -- and that was the multiple fracture that I demanded they not cast. I already owned a surgical-quality splint that actually immobilized the arm better than a cast would. (It would also mean less physical restriction so I could still sort of work) I skipped a follow-up appointment on that one too. So $1200 was a bare-naked broken arm and even that would not have been fully covered.
Take a really, really critical look at what exactly is covered and what exactly is not. NASE leaves a lot of things out, so your out-of-pocket will be pretty high.
In terms of affordable but comprehensive providers, have a look at Humana. I have had them recommended several times and the quote I received on coverage was reasonable.
I have had coverage by Blue Cross/Blue Shield years ago and swore I would never go back. They kept changing the rules mid-stream and "interpreting" my medical conditions however they wanted (often incorrectly) so they could get away with not covering things that were very clearly supposed to be covered. I had to challenge coverage of things regularly which wasted a lot of my time. Maybe they have changed recently.
There is a long thread about this at the
SitePoint Forums, note there is a lot of feedback about NASE as well as other recommendations.
Hope this helps!!!!
