We don't offer anything to customers who sign-up to get our newsletter (no bonuses, no extra discounts).

Most of our retail customers like doing business with us, and almost all of them sign-up to get weekly or monthly specials.

We also collect their snail mail address.

We send weekly emails and a monthly print newsletter.

Good points about being unable to read people's writing.

It is better to sign them up some way on the spot
(even if your staff have to enter the details while they're there.)

So you are actually giving them some kind of incentive to sign up for your email list: notification of your weekly or monthly specials.

It's very important to give people who sign up to your list a compelling reason to open and read your emails.

Yes, I guess that's the bonus they get for signing up.

When we ask them to sign-up, we do tell them they will get sales notices.

People love sales and saving money on the things they buy.

Actually, my girlfriend has a great natural ability to sell stuff and is always the top sales person in the stores she works at. But no matter how good you do in retail, the money is just not there. So she's going to get your programs and try her hand at being self employed.

The best part of selling your "internet marketing services" to local businesses is that you can get started while you're still working a regular job.

In fact you can get started just by talking to the owners of businesses you already frequent, business owners you already know or business owners who are friends of friends, friends of family etc.

Best of all if your girlfriend already knows a copywriter who can put an optin form and a sales page online you can make amazing money just by teaming up.

She sells the direct response websites and email follow up systems and you write the sales letters, optin forms and emails.

Nearly all of what a small business needs to turn their online marketing into real sales is actually copywriting.

But you can't sell it that way. You need to sell yourself as an internet marketing consultant or direct response website designers or something along those lines.

Business owners already suspect there's huge money to be made on the internet...they just don't know how to do it.

And that's where you come in.

While signing up clients and prospects for an email list while in a store is certainly the best way to go - has anyone tried giving prospects a flyer with instructions to signup once they get home? Entering in contact info by hand after someone fills out a form seems like it could be a bit of work (not that there's anything wrong with that!) and with the right incentive - I'd think people would be glad to make time to signup when they get in front of their pc.

I definitely like the idea of getting them signed up on the spot though and it seems like the perfect job for something like the Asus EEE.

You can set the cash register of most stores to print out a domain name and even an enticement for customers to go to that domain.

Keep in mind though that most businesses already have staff with more than enough down time to enter names and addresses into a system.

Or you could have a computer in store as was mentioned previously so clients and staff could enter email addresses on the spot.

People are generally lazy and preoccupied. Slim chance they will go home then enter their info.

We found the best way to get their contact info is to have them type it into a laptop "while" they are at the counter checking out.

They enter their contact info (snail mail and email) into software called "my mail list". We can export and import with that program. "My mail list" is only about $50 and it's a nice little program for our retail store newsletters.

Cool idea! Anybody ever do this?

You could package that into the fee.

Buy an Eee, and set it up for them in a high traffic area. Have it home paged to an opt-in form.

Give them one free "wad of 100 dollar bills" now, and one later by email if they get on the list. (or whatever your offer is.)
