Default ebooks, info and FREE resources - 10-15-2005, 12:31 AM

We recently launched our niche site for small businesses, entrepreneurs and independent sales professionals. Tons of stuff to check out.

http://www.gravitationalmarketing.com

Some good copy writing to examine too.

Create A Herding Stampede Of Qualified Prospects Who Ring Your Phone Off The Hook, Flood Your Fax Machine And Explode Your Email Box, All Begging To Do Business With You.

You’ll learn how to eliminate awful cold prospecting and manual sales bull work from your day. You’ll uncover how, where and when to spend your marketing dollars.

If you are interested in that then this is the most important site you’ll ever find. Bookmark it now and keep reading.
I have to say that this copy does nothing for me and doesn't make me feel like exploring any further.

1) It's an old promise and evokes the reaction "well they would say that, wouldn't they"
2) It uses hackneyed phrases
3) You're hitting me over the head with some aggressive imagery without proving that you can deliver a "herding stampede". (Why "herding stampede" instead of just "stampede")

And so on. I also didn't really like the imagery of the spacemen.

So I have to disgree that it's good copy - sorry!

Jane

Hi Jimmy,

I really like your site.

Jane makes some good points, but I don't think your target market will be as critical. I think sometimes we copywriters (or those interested in copywriting) see so many marketing sites and messages as part of our learning and research that they all start to look repetitious and dull to our eyes.

I didn't study the copy, but was impressed by the amount of information you offer (free ebooks, audio ebook, e-course) and enjoyed the writing style (and topics) of your blog. But the blog article titled "A Genius Idea From A Fellow Member" is driving me crazy! (I want to know the answer ). I'm wondering why it's over a month old with no reader comments (guesses), though...

Nice job!

Great Blog...been there for over an hour now!

Don't these words contradict eachother? There's a name for that. What is it? When two words that contradict each other are put together?

Like 'wet dry cell' or 'military intelligence'.

Default Thanks for all the feedback! - 10-18-2005, 11:57 AM

Dear all,

First of all, I want to thank janebert for her honest feedback. We're actually very encouraged by negative feedback, specifically because we operate by our "Principle of Thirds," which requires that a full 1/3 of our audience dislike (or even despise) what we do, say, how we look, and our general demeanor.

We know that by sacrificing this 1/3, we stand an excellent chance of winning the hearts of another 1/3. Of course, the final 1/3 will always ignore everything, so they're lost. But we're very happy to elicit strong emotions in either direction.

Of course, as for what is or isn't good copywriting, I suppose we can only leave that decision up to the numbers (to whom we are all slaves).

Before building this site, we a/b tested 10 different headlines and appeals over about 2500 google clicks. We used the winners! That's not to say, however, that there aren't better ideas that may beat our control right around every corner...

Of course, since this site is not a sales letter (nor intended to be) we tried not to drive visitors to one specific offer or resource. The good news is we're enjoying a 30%+ conversion to SOME permission step on this site. That's enough to make us smile. (Of course, yes, we do have other sales letters up which receive target traffic, but we chose a different mode for this site.)

Finally, as for the fitness member - and his genius idea. I'm willing to share the idea, but I would like to see a few guesses come from you guys. It's a great idea, but one worth earning - so throw a few ideas my way.

We were curious why no comments either...we've found that our members (at this point, only 2 months into the program) are still a little shy and don't want to look silly in front the others. We received a ton of guesses in our email. None correct - so nobody won the book. Too bad!

Orange Regards,

Jimmy Vee

P.S. As for the "herding stampede" being an oxymoron...take a look at the definitions below and decide for yourself.

Stampede:

A sudden frenzied rush of panic-stricken animals.
A sudden headlong rush or flight of a crowd of people.
A mass impulsive action:

Herd:
A group of cattle or other domestic animals of a single kind kept together for a specific purpose.
A number of wild animals of one species that remain together as a group: a herd of elephants.
A large number of people; a crowd: a herd of stranded passengers.
The multitude of common people regarded as a mass.

v. herd•ed, herd•ing, herds

To gather, keep, or drive (animals) in a herd.
To tend (sheep or cattle).
To gather and place into a group or mass: herded the children into the auditorium.

Default The genius idea...<drum roll> - 10-19-2005, 03:15 PM

OK. Ed's the only person who wanted to play along. I must say, he had some excellent guesses! But non correct.

So I will break the suspense.

The target this member of ours chose to go after was Brides To Be. So easy to reach, and so hungry and hopeful for results.

The best part, one bride knows others. And the market is constantly refreshing itself.

I loved it.

The "military intelligence" part is funny as hell!
