I first came across "data cards" in the AWAI course. I can imagine that these would be very helpful if they were accurate, but I would also bet that most small- to medium-sized companies haven't filled out or keep data cards. After all, one thing I keep reading repeatedly is that most businesses don't know their "true" business.

How many of you have come across companies with nifty data cards ready for you to work with?

Thanks!
Chris

I've seen a data card once... and it was the one they show in the awai course.

Lol. I knew it.

Alright, maybe I need to cancel this course. I think I just paid a lot of money for a course that tells me nothing I can't find elsewhere for a fraction of the price. I'm a proposal writer during the day. I can string sentences together somewhat coherently. The main reason I got the AWAI course was for pointers on developing a freelance copywriting business. If I'm not going to get that until much later, well, forget it. I learn more here with a few drop-ins everyday than I've learned with the first installment of AWAI's course.

First... You will get no help from that course on starting or running your business. If that's the goal... get it elsewhere.

Second... There are plenty of books mentioned on this board that are far better than that course... and far cheaper.

Third... About data cards. I believe the reason you don't see them is because so much of our work as copywriters is done online... and the datacard is more of an offline mailing list thingy.

That said... The idea of knowing exactly who the person is you're selling to is very valid and important.
