Default Anyone subscribe to Dan Kennedy's newsletter? - 06-22-2008, 09:26 PM

I just started the trial membership and wondered if it was worth continuing the subscription. I loathe the format, but it seems to have some decent tips. $50 per month worth of tips? I don't know.

Thoughts?

You'll probably get opinions all over the map. I've cancelled twice but always went back. Mainly because Dan has no problem admitting he has his opinions and that's what his clients want. If they want feel good stuff they can get that from their friends and family or on message boards like this one (unless you use a certain word).

His format makes me shudder everytime I read it. Micro-fonts, changing fonts and offensive remarks (I happen to be in a Demographic he likes to poke at) don't really help. It actually makes it harder to read. I get what I imagine is most of his sales letters and they're the same way.

I also don't really like it that Bill is taking on so much. Mainly because he's sort of cozied up with another self-proclaimed IM who I question really lives up to the billing.

But, here I am a paid member again. His student examples, which is mostly what his letter is these days, are excellent. Once in awhile the interview has something powerful I can use.

I kind of feel pulled in both directions. Painful eyes and ears and improving my marketing skills. So far I choose the latter but I imagine someday it's just not going to be worth it. GL

If I had a dime for every retail store that "got it" I'd owe $6,139,420.40.

Kawika

Intwesting! I recall him having some policy of not allowing a subscriber to renew if they cancelled. Guess that's just hot air?

Well. He is great at announcing that once you're gone you're banned from his list for life. I have it on video tape. He's no dummy though.

I don't remember the exact sequence of events. I may have bought a product from him and re-subscribed from an offer in the package. The second time I may have used a different card.

Maybe there's a "This person spends a lot of money on training materials, they can come back anytime" list.

I know a couple non-marketing teachers who understand me very well. I'm easy pickins for them because their stuff is so good. Send me a letter, here's my card. Sometimes I curse Pavlov. Cheers.

I subscribe to the Glazer-Kennedy newsletter. I sometimes question the use of my money for this publication. Even though we're in the sales and marketing business, I'm not happy about paying money every month so I can read a bunch Kennedy-Glazer offers.

But every so often, the newsletter contains some gem that makes me think twice about dropping it. If you're on a tight budget, you'll learn more about copywriting from Clayton Makepeace and his "Screaming Eagle" newsletter.

Hmm. Thanks. I'll devour the first two issues and see what I can dig up. They say you can't resubscribe, but if you (and others) have done it, maybe I'll consider doing so at another time if these two issues don't blow me away.

In my opinion, there's nothing yet in the salad of propaganda that isn't in his No B.S. Direct Marketing book or this board.

Noted. Thanks. We're trying to trim the fat from our budget, so maybe the $$$ isn't worth it now...

Unless you own and have read (at least 3 times each) most of the inexpensive books on copywriting and marketing mentioned in a number of threads here... then I'd pass on the subscription.

I canceled it. Same old, same old.

I have Dan Kennedys books and seminars.

Dan Kennedy delivers great stuff.

But the newsletters just seems to repeat what's in his books and seminars.

And Bill Glazer is Dan Kennedy Jr.

When I need a refresher, I just re-read one of his books or listen to one of his seminars again.

I subscribed for awhile, and it's great stuff. But after you've been a regular reader for a year or two, it's just more of the same. I ended up cancelling after a couple years, and don't regret it. I still refer to the back issues; the marketing principles are evergreen.
