Default Jamba Juice vs. Home Depot - 06-22-2008, 05:04 PM

I should probably already know this. It's just one of those, "Oh, so that's how it works" moments that I'd like to share.

I finished an Aikido class and decided to take me and my painful wrists to get a drink. I went to the JJ by a local community college and apartment building that housed mostly college kids.

I found that the JJ was packed and running out the door. Granted it's 100+ here in San Diego today so it's a great day for a cold drink. Literally all of them were college kids. So I went to Starbucks instead.

In the same parking lot is a HD. Also packed. I went inside to spend my monthly $200+ on random tools. I justify it with I lost my 3/16" drill bit so I need to buy the new titanium bits and you can't just by one.

In the HD were I imagine a couple hundred people. Not a college kid to be found. Lot's of men and women and couples. Most I assume live in houses or townhouses. Maybe apartments that just need to fix it up to look nice.

I don't know the real reasons I guess it could be a money issue, apartment vs. house and not really caring if the couch is ripped, just throw a sheet over it. Save the money for beer.

If you have any thoughts I'd appreciate hearing them. Cheers.

If I had a dime for every retail store that "got it" I'd owe $6,139,420.40.

Well, it's damn near obvious you're in Mira Mesa... so... my suggestion is, get the hell up to Carmel Mt. Ranch, enjoy both Jamba and Home Depot and the lack of college kids.

I've been in plenty of home improvement stores over the years and can probably count the number of college kids I've seen there on one hand. It just doesn't seem like someplace a college student needs to shop unless they need to build a science project of some sort, and I can't think of any time I ever visited a hardware store back in my college days.

Now an auto parts store on the other hand - I would think they would see much more traffic from kids looking to maintain their rides as cheaply as possible, but even there, most kids would probably opt for beer over changing their oil.

Makes sense when you say it. I'm not sure why I was so surprised at the demographic makeup.

Guilty. I had two blown engines to prove it. Actually it was when I was in High School but same same.

Congrats to Riss619 for knowing geography. Isn't 619 below I-8 though?

Cheers.

Yup...however, I was a 619er way before the ever-remembered-and-often-reminisced 858 split! And now... sadly, I am an 858er.
