Angie -

You're trying to get a "worker bee" to tell the boss not only to start marketing the business but jump in with both feet and spend a ton of money/time on something they have never done before?

Good luck with that. I can tell you from my experience and being a worker bee in a small business that the boss tells you what to do, not the other way around. I actually put together a customer program that rewarded our largest buyer, monthly events, etc.

It was sit sitting on the owners desk unopened when he sold the comany.

Bottom line if I were in your shoes would be to find a company that is already doing some sort of advertisements and adjust those instead of starting from scratch.

Just my 2 cents and worth twice what you paid for it.

When someone asks me to give them three versions of something for free I'll spend just under 12 seconds thinking about it.

"Sure", I'll say, "Advertise like every other business and get their same results. Do it your own way and hope to (deity name here) you succeed. Or do it my way and make an obscene amount of money and have your customers begging to buy something else from you."

I'd probably throw in, "and wonder which bank you'll open your next account with since your current account will have so many digits it'll run-off the side of your bank statement." But that's probably just me. GL

Hi, Tim.

Thank you for sharing your dramatic story.
But there must have been some misunderstanding.
I am not trying to convince a junior admin assistant
or a cleaning lady to do marketing. I have been in
contact with a guy who is in charge of sales and marketing
and has a lot of influence with his boss. He is more than just
a "worker bee". (A "****roach in charge" would be a better
definition )

He is even thinking about hiring a full-time marketing person
in the future. But due to budget constraints, can only
consider a freelancer. That's where I come in.

As I pointed out, Publicity would be a good way to start.
It's cost-effective and gives you more credibility. Unlike advertising.
I will offer to write an article for them and try to submit it
to various trade publications or maybe even arrange an interview.
DM alone is not gonna do it. Even if executed properly.
DM combined with Publicity sounds like a plan.
Am I right or am I right??

Angie

Angie -

Sounds like the guy is willing to work at it which is a good thing. I was the manager of the company btw in my last post.

If you're going to do publicity that is great but it needs to be something exciting to get the press coverage.

So funny you say that.

I thought it was Harlan. But I doubt he'd waste his time
with over 200 posts just for a little fun.

Alright...

so they currently do NO MARKETING OR ADVERTISING.

But you are talking to the person in charge of marketing and sales.

And then you say the boss is thinking about hiring a full time marketing person in the future... but due to budget restraints can only hire a freelancer...

I guess I'm just making fun of myself by posting here...

Whatever you do guys... DON"T talk to Angie or you'll look like an a**

Hmmm... I haven't seen Kyle put in his $.02 yet.

I can't see Harlan putting in his 200 posts like Moffatt said...

I think Moffatt is just trying to keep up the act!

Does this picture describe the boss AND
the person in charge of marketing
for the marketing that they DON'T do?

Or the company in general?
