Default Marketing Book Recommendation - 05-21-2008, 03:44 PM

Every once in a while, I read a book that makes me think twice about sharing it. This is one of those books. I don't really want you guys to have the knowledge contained within

But I'll share because I know most of you won't read it and of those that try, most will quit because it's not an easy read.

But the points it makes are excellent. The tools it provides are unique and valuable. I suspect that there are billions of dollars worth of business that could be created from the ideas in this book.

It's called "Blue Ocean Strategy: How to Create Uncontested Market Space and Make Competition Irrellevant".

I'll say no more.

You're right, Bruce. It isn't an easy read, but yes it's a great book.

Regards,
Lance

I too would hesitatingly recommend this book under the strict condition that you promise not to read it.

Seems like an interesting book, I would enjoy reading it. Is what is written in it immediately actionable though?

Dude, big mistake.

One thing I do is look for recommendations from people on this site... and I take them very seriously.

I like to read Dosteyevsky, so I'll certainly give this a go.

BTW, this is MBA material so, like the guys say, it could be a waste of time <grin>.

What if I close my eyes while I'm reading it?

Since you're an Aussie, I'll bet you were proud reading about [yellowtail] wine? Amazing how they came in and just broke open a huge market in such a short time.

[yellow tail] was interesting to me because I drink it every now and then, being their exact target market (ie beer drinker -- the cross over crowd), so it really resonated with me.

When you get down to it BOS is basically about positioning (on steroids, if you're in IM) -- something that rarely gets talked about around here. (At least not in public.)

But again, get it if you must, just leave it on the shelf.

As for you Ken, what do you mean eyes? I thought you were a forum bot.
