Here is the easiest way to predict your future earnings as a copywriter.

First things first, you must know how long it takes for you to write various marketing collateral (emails, postcards, sales letters, etc..)

Based on that time frame you can pretty much accurately predict how much work you can consistently produce every month.

Using those numbers, you can easily predict your future income.

However, how do you know exactly how long it takes to write a sales letter for your client?

Simple, you time it.

And this online tool is perfect for your needs.

It's called SlimTimer and you can find it here:

SlimTimer - Time Tracking without the Timesheet

It's absolutely free to use.

Plus, if you have employees, you can track their time usage on projects as well.

It's a great tool that I've been using for a while now.

The only problem/downfall is you have to remember to turn it on and track your time!

Other than that little "glitch", it's a great tool.

Hope you find it as useful as I do.

Best,

Harun

There's only one problem with your theory there.

The figures won't be accurate at all because no-one works 24/7/365.

Looks like a useful tool though!

Hi Sarah,

Of course no one works 24/7/365.

I'm not suggesting that you do.

But let's say it takes you - and let's just say that these numbers are your averages.

40 hours of research on a new clients business, industry, niche etc...

And then another 60 hours of writing, editing etc... to create a new promo for your client.

That's a total of 100 hours to create a new promo from scratch.

So knowing that any new clients you take on, it's going to take you 100 hours of work. Or 2.5 weeks working a standard 8 hour week and taking the weekends off.

Let's round it up to 3 weeks to make things simple.

And let's say you take 2 weeks off for vacation a year.

So based off of 3 weeks per promo for a new client you would be able to create roughly 16 new promos a year.

(50 weeks divided by 3 weeks = 16.6)

Now if you're charging $5k a salesletter, you know that you can make $80,000 a year with just new clients and no royalties.

If you charge $10k a year, you'll be at $160k a year.

Now obviously you have to (1) be able to sustain this level of output. And (2) have a steady stream of clients willing to pay your fees.

Being able to hit your income goals is really about knowing (A) how much your time is worth and (B) how long it takes you to do things.

Hope that makes sense.
