I had never heard of Coach bags until someone mentioned them on one of my websites a couple months ago. Then I looked at the price. Yikes! I'm a woman and I don't get it. My two daughters (15 and 1 don't get it, either. I'm not about to spend a mortgage payment--or more--on a purse. I'd rather have that money in the bank.

When I buy a purse--less than one per year because they tend to last for awhile--I spend about 19.99. Thank you, JC Penney's!

That's supposed to read (15 and eighteen) above without the emoticon. For some reason, I cannot edit it out of the text. Every time I type an eight, I get the emoticon!

I bought an almost new coach bag at a yardsale of a rich Smith College student for $12. And yep...it was the real deal, tags, and cleaning instructions were still in the pocket.

If you are going about your everyday business, bags don't matter much. But if you hob-nob with influential people, power lunches and all that--bags are noticed.

We've got some weird built-in thing as humans for status and hierarchy.

I understand how the rest of the world thinks. When I say "I don't get it," I mean that I am not willing to trade that much green stuff for a purse. My thinking is along the lines of the book The Millionaire Next Door. I'd rather have several hundred dollars inside the purse than invested in it. That's all I'm saying.........

I feel similarly (although I admit I like nice things). I guess my strategy is to never pay the retail price.

I never pay retail for it either. And the one time I got one retail as a gift I sold it after the season for 75% of the price. So essentially the purse was really cheap. And it was only in fair condition which I stated.

I like that they stand up when you put them down. For some reason that is important to me. I hate to have a bag that you sit down and it flops, revealing any personal purse contents. I also like the clean lines. And I rather like what I get at the outlet because usually, it's something I've never seen before so I'm not seeing it on everyone's shoulder.

I don't spend much. I don't buy much. But I do like Coach. (and diamonds) They are my only two girl traits and I'm holding onto them for dear life.

Never met a girl that didn't like diamonds. DeBeers was way ahead of their time.

Man, I have always wondered the same thing. As I walk around campus I see girls carrying these purses... they just have a "C" all over them. I asked one girl how much it cost and she said a little over $300.

It makes no sense.
