It's been a few years since I used their system but it's still overpriced. Their email system was god-awful... they would limit the number of email I could send out to anyone at once (i.e. sending a note out to a bunch of friends) but there was ZERO spam filter. So every piece of spam landed in my in-box.
It took them 3 years to remove their name as the registrar for that domain name of mine. So everytime I had to move that domain to a new hosting company, I had to call Site Build It to get them to change the DNS settings so my site would be online. Big pain in the a$$ to say the least.
Seriously, you're better off learning how to create a basic webpage, especially if you're writing any online copy.
Here's what I recommend:
1. Grab webdesign software. I'm partial to Dreamweaver but many others like FrontPage or even XSitePro. That's your most expensive investment. I bit the bullet early and got the full Macromedia (it's now Adobe) web design package with Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and the works.
2. Sign up for a monthly membership at lynda.com for $25/month. Use their video training to learn how to use your web design software.
3. Grab a hosting company that offers a Cpanel. That way, many of the cool apps like WordPress are just a one-click install. A lot of IMers like HostGator.
I've been very happy with Lunar Pages and Hosting Zoom (their Failover One plans) for hosting. Head over to webhostingtalk.com for current customer reviews of different hosting companies.
If you get into having multiple sites, then look into getting a reseller account instead of a standard hosting account.
4. Grab a free copy of WebCEO and use it for your basic
SEO tweaks & submissions. There's other
SEO tips and tricks you can do but that's another LONG thread for some point in the future.
Good luck,
Mike
