I'll tell you... NO WHERE!

Adwords RULES!

The only thing better would be ranking in the top 5 organically,

Or, if the "Traffic Fairy" dumped a million visitors on your site,
that would be pretty cool.

We've also been throwing around marketing ideas since launching an online-based editing & proofreading business. Believe it or not, we've found the company blog to bring in most traffic. A link to the blog is provided on the first page of the main site.

Interestingly, before the Web site's URL was even ranked on Yahoo (still waiting for Google), the blog's URL was all over page one of the search engine results. We try and keep the blog fresh with content, with a link at the top that takes folks back the main Web site.

Another thing we've done is create a video. If you're on the Windows platform, you can use the Windows Movie Maker software that came with the computer. While there's no rock 'n roll soundtrack, the images are from the site and are sandwiched between pages created in Photoshop that provide contact information. The video clip runs about 40 seconds. We posted to Google videos and several social networking sites (e.g. Facebook) that allow for clips in the profile.

Probably take the Adwords route soon. Looks like Facebook and other sites run Adwords too (though I'm not sure if it's Google's).

I saw this resurrected thread and thought I'd add something that you don't often hear people talk about. As a matter of fact, I don't think I've ever seen an SEO expert mention this. Could be because they're keeping secrets. Could be because they honestly don't know. But here it is:

OLD DOMAIN NAMES

Find a domain name that was in any way connected with copywriting (or whatever industry you're in) and buy it. You can check on its history at archive.org. Then look for links to the page. If it has a somewhat solid history, with a few good links to it, you'll probably get some traffic just by buying it and putting a few good articles on it...maybe just one sales page.

You can also try buying domains that aren't being kept up by their owners. I mean if a guy abandoned his first ever 'online business', he might be willing to sell the domain name for a few hundred to recover some of his losses.

And finally, try to find generic domain names that people are likely to type into their browsers (like copywriters.com). You'll pay a lot for these, but they'll give you traffic that won't ever die out...even if the search engines don't like you.

I've got it, You need it, I'm selling it at:

  1. Forum posting - URL in signature
  2. Myspace blog - use networking feature, build friends- send bullettins
  3. Blog- good content, niche, familiar theme, regular
  4. Facebook - post 'nice' pictures in popular facebook groups
  5. Join blog communities ONLY if you're prepared to work hard befriending newbs, joining communities, posting in groups, discussions etc. MyBlogLog when people join your community use that list to send 'messages' that everyone who views their profile will see (befriend high profile bloggers)
  6. Article posting - here there and everywhere, not duplicates
  7. Google group - good to add mailing list feature to google blog
  8. www.Feedburner.com - use all features offered
  9. Submit to search engines (see A Technophobes Guide to Blogging! for easy entry to 40_ engines and directories free)
  10. Technorati: Front Page
  11. Social Blog Directory, Blog Search, Blog Directory, Free Blog // BlogDumps
  12. ProBlogs.com - Create and search business and personal blogs free! (lot of traffic to this site and not much competition)
  13. Reciprocal links but only from related sites
  14. testimonials on other sites - perhaps have reciprocal arrangement
  15. Leave comments on popular blog sites
  16. You all have joined CW board and post here regularly but why not psot regularly on a forum that your clients visit! Ie, if your client is a web developer. join a web developing forum and so on.
  17. Leave ads on the writers jobs sites (free ones)
  18. word of mouth around and about- business cards
  19. Flyers
  20. Press releases
Here's a sneaky thing I initiated a few months ago which is starting to work.

I asked myself...

'what will be people be searching for in their many thousands in the future but aren't NOW?'

I figured Big Brother 9 uk (it doesn't start till May)

So months ago I created a BB9 uk blog early so I got good Google spot (which I now have!) and I intend to use that site to drive the many visitors it will get from May to my other blogs.

Note: That blog is already my most visited via Google, so it's already working even though series has not yet started!
Big Brother 9 UK - No1 for Gossip and News!

I also do get traffic from that blog to my other blogs, and when I integrate links into the blog posts, I will get even more.

Hope this helps!!

SEO for long tail keywords. I've had a site for about 9 years. I didn't really apply much of it until recently.

I've not used Adwords yet but so far I've stayed pretty booked. I often have some clients who contract me for years and pay a monthly fee. I like having some of these because you get to know that client and his/her business and you get a few regular gigs going as bread and butter. I've grown accustomed to managing the new projects and working things in with the regulars. Those regulars provide great word-of-mouth advertising, too.

Cf, It was pretty comprehensive list. I think you just left it off so I'd have something to post.
