Hey all -

I was wondering if I really needed to look into some specific postcard marketing books or if the 1000's of pages I have on copywriting will do (Halbert, Kennedy, Bob S, BKV, etc).

I bought a system for marketing my entertainment business and I am trying to spice up some of the postcards it comes with. The first one I spiced up pulled like gangbusters, then I made the rookie of mistake of trying to better my best and it was a BUST.

So I am going back to the first one and we'll see what happens but I wanted to know if there was a product out there that beats the above mentioned one or are they all going to say the same things:

1. List
2. Offer
3. Headline
4. Copy
5. Reason to call right now

They're all going to say the same thing. I have Brian Keith Voiles "Post Card Magic" manual, and it's very good but it's still comes down to the five things you listed above with one caveat...

Mr. Subtle has really enlightened me on the use of full color post-cards with an eye catching graphic in conjunction with a powerful headline, great offer, Ect.

Paying for the advice from someone who understands the dynamics of post-card marketing from both a graphics and sales copy perspective, wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Alex Mandossian has a postcard info product also, though I don't know anything about it. Try google.

I'm looking into some postcards myself after watching Doberman Dan's video. They are having good success with a plain text postcard on a goldenrod card. We're talking high single-digit lead generation conversions and I think they said 13% sales conversions on the leads.

I got the first three chapters of Alex's book and I wasn't impressed. Nothing new - just simple stuff like "your headline is 80% of the work", use color, etc.

I have so much marketing stuff that I need more of it like I need another hole in my head.

I currently use simple b&w postcards on goldenrod paper and do ok because I sell a high profit item. In Jan I sent one out and got 16 calls off of 900 cards, made some changes, sent it out last weekend, landed on Monday, and got a single card - HUGE BUST.

Going to resend the orginal out next Monday so they can hit all during the week and go from there.

I think I will switch to color cards later this year since the upgrade isn't that much, but the time it takes to print and get takes awhile, instead of a couple of hours at the local Kinkos.

That's hardly a "rookie" mistake. You should always be testing, but not testing something new to your entire list. Think split testing to part of the list (if your list is a decent size) and have some means of tracking it. In your case it should be easy... geographical... let's say by zip code. If someone calls you, you don't have to ask them to retrieve some code on the postcard... you'll know which card is pulling better by where they live.

Mr. S -

My list is 1,000 people so I send out a monthly postcard and judge my results. Don't worry the list is growing but when I do a mailing I feel like anything less than a 1,000 doesn't give me an good test.

In the coming months I'm going to move from black & white to color postcards, more testimonals, etc.
