Ah - watching the SB while surfing the copywriters board I just had to go check out the new Godaddy ad... Go Daddy Hot Spot

What do you think of that gem? At least they make an offer at the end! lol

You think GoLeads will run another ad this year? I thought last years was pretty boring but quite effective.

Steve

The entire purpose of the Godaddy Super Bowl ad was to drive viewers to their website. Looks like it worked!

Bob Parsons is the CEO and driving force behind Godaddy.

I host most of my websites there. The prices are good and the service is even better.

I think it's worth checking alexa.com in a few days (when the stats are out) to see what kind of spike in traffic it caused.

Wanna know my guess (results vs the price of the ad)?

Then again it's a public company now so results aren't the only purpose of the ad.

Screw looking at the traffic spike. Watch the conversions. Just keep an eye on the new domain name registrations under their names.

Personally, I thought the ad stunk.

I did like the planter's and the talking stain ads. I think they hit the nail on the head.

If I did my calculatin' correct, they got 22,973,241 registrations last week (sat, sun, mon). This week, at 6 PM eastern, they've got 23,150,631 registrations...we'll see how they finish the day out.

My bet--the numbers won't be huge.

not worth the $'s of the ad.

how did you find out how many registrations they had?

Domain registrations are all kind of a public record. Not by law or anything, but just because that's the way it's set up.

But I just realized that I might not have been looking at good stats...they might not post todays registrations until tomorrow. Time will tell.

But really, the award has to go to the talking stain. That commercial was ALL about the product and what it can do for people. It was absolutely brilliant. Anyone watching it would immediately relate to it and understand its value.

I've never been big on the "get attention any way you can" and then try to sell 'em something ads, but I will say that I appreciate the struggle Bob went through to grow that company and his 16 rules to live by are great.

I found that Audi commercial rather disturbing - but that was before I knew what they were selling. That R8 is sweet, but like most big companies I think their advertising stinks.

What I think stinks is that once a company turns public it is usually difficult for that company to run DR ads. I know there are exceptions (like taco bell and Sharper Image) but for the most part investors don't like seeing them.

The better for me I guess!

The one thing they *did* get right, which nobody else did, in the original ad (see it online somewhere) is that it was intended to drive traffic to their website, to then watch the "revealed" 2nd ad in the sequence... so it was an attempt at DR, though not as well executed as it could've been, by a long margin.

My favorite ad was the fedex one with the big carrier pigeons - memorable and showed contrast plus it was funny and effective at communicating their USP.
Inside the 2008 FedEx Super Bowl Commerical | FedEx Newsroom

The napoleon one in the car was good too.

All ads at:
Budweiser's dog and pony show takes top Ad Meter spot - USATODAY.com

Most of the ads sucked and were madison avenue drivel as usual vs DR, and most even did a poor job at branding/awareness. I watched them all online, to see if there were any nuggets. Didn't find any.
