Default The $7 Report - 01-25-2008, 02:48 PM

I'm getting ready to sell my first report on my DFM site. I'm wondering how to price it. It will be between 28-35 pages. We're going to sell the report first. Later, we'll include it as a bonus with our e-books.

I see a lot of hype about selling reports for $7. Is this a good strategy, or should I price higher? I don't buy a lot of reports, so I don't know where to begin as far as setting a price.

This report is about personal finance: saving money and getting out of debt. It's not just informational fluff; it will contain action steps for getting out of debt.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Deb,

I personally don't like the idea of a $7 report. Partly because there has been so much hype about $7 reports over at that other place.

Secondly, I think a $7 report is sorta caught in "no-mans land" between a free report that I would use to build my list and a info-loaded, meaty report that I'd offer for say $29 to $49.

Then you have the "big brother" report that would contain worksheets, Cd's and a free binder for $199.

Thanks, Michael. Great suggestions.

We're targeting moms--many of them single moms--who are in debt. My original plan was to market this report for $19.97. I don't want to price it too low because it diminishes the value (and all the hard work I'm putting into it), and I don't want to price it too high because our target market may not buy it.

I love your ideas, though, and will consider using them for a higher-end product in the future.

Have you maybe thought of creating it as an "intro" product for let's say $1 and create a site as a membership type of thing?

I see that you're all in this debt free stay at home mom's niche .

Just my thoughts...

$22.95?

I go with something like that.

No the $7 price tag sucks for a whole pile of reasons.

First I can't imagine there'd be any difference in conversion between the
$7 price point and the $9.97 price point.

Why throw away $2.97 per report for no increase in sales.

Second selling a report that cheap is likely to decrease its perceived
value.

Having said all that the real power of the $7 report was the scripts
giving 100% commissions paid directly into their paypal accounts
to anyone who promoted them for you...a very powerful incentive
for affiliates.

But this works just as well with a $10, $20 or $49 report...probably better.

Also keep in mind that if you get a 5% reponse with a $7 report or sell the report
for $20 and get a 2% response you're actually way ahead selling it for $20
(unless your back end sales process is exceptionally good).

Kindest regards,
Andrew Cavanagh
