Default "must see" 2-part video ad for macintosh.. - 01-25-2008, 09:32 AM

Here's a must-see video ad, watch it w/sound, for mac:

Home | The Onion - America's Finest News Source

Note how the guy "climbs out of the ad" from skyscraper to banner ad at the end to post "Not"? Great innovation... has a person moving from what appears to be one ad to climb out of the box, into the other ad, to post "not" on top of a testimonial... very innovative!

I hate MAC almost as much as MS...but they make the absolute best commercials. The MAC guy alone would have grabbed my attention, and I would have turned the sound on. Climbing out of the banner ad was just frosting on the cake. Brilliant way to catch attention.

Right .. I'm also a pc guy (actually an "uber-otaku" who builds my own pcs from scratch using parts from newegg)..

NLP note: see how they carefully chose it as the guy in the suit who puts the "NOT" sign on the testimonial for competing product, not the teenage guy... it's carefully designed, the wardrobe, to elicit the credibility of who is chosen to paste the "not" on the ad... it works on many levels, many subsconsciously like that deconstruction I just noted..

Let's face it...apple is totally after generation y. With all the i products, and MAC guy, etc. Reminds me of the Dell guy (whom I kind of miss).

Anyway, after the VISTA screwup, who knows where it will go.

The ad originally appeared last week on the NY Times website.

As a web ad, I think the Apple ad is (forgive me) "killer."

I just love visual gimmicks.

I love Apple's ads and with the recent profits just reported they must be working for them, but I'd love to see them do something direct response style and see how that compares to the "image" advertising they do.

Has anyone seen the IBM set of print ads that they were running about a year ago in IT magazines? It was kind of a story line that stretched out over the whole mag. I'll try to find them and post them. They were equally as focused on their specific readers.

They would show company problems that could be solved by using new IBM servers. But the boss (I can't remember it now, but they gave him a cool name like 'sid' or something) would do all kinds of crazy stuff to fix it. I think there was one where he made everyone in the office wear roller skates to speed up delivery time.
