Default Is it okay to use an Alias? - 01-23-2008, 02:52 PM

Hi, I was just reading Michel's blog post about using an alias and have a question regarding this for all you marketing superstars

What are your thoughts about using an alias in two different niches. For example if a person is already well known in the online marketing niche and then wants to get involved in the health niche, would it be smart in this case to use an alias or could they get away with using the same name for both niches?

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I use a pen name for all my niches so far.

I think it's a smart move for privacy reasons: you don't necessarily want other marketers to know what niches you are working in.

It's also practical because it cuts down on the clutter under your real name in Google.

It's also just plain fun to develop new personas under various pen names.

Kind Regards,

Anita

I've heard that it's best to use different names for different niches. I guess people wonder how you can claim to be an expert in several areas.

I promote my Debt-free Mom site with my own name, but I'm using aliases for other sites to keep my identity private.

I use an alias in all my niches. Learnt that from Ed Dale and Frank Kern.
If people discovered Frank's (million bucks a year) niche businesses under his real name I guess thay'd be pouring into them....
Also if you're into marketing on the social networking MySpace and Facebook etc your credibility would be shot if you're say pushing kung fu fighting...daffodil growing....pancake making...etc....under the same name.

You'd be one clever dude!!

cheers mark

I've wondered about this one as well, and I'm curious to know if anyone's ever had any problems with clients finding out that you use more than one name? If so, do they feel duped? Scammed?
