Ken,

I'm with you on this one.

Hidden forced continuity is sweeping through the IM market like a plague. I've decided that I will refuse to write any copy that includes any forced continuity that is not clearly spelled out.

The gimmick is to include in in a FREE bonus, if you can believe that. And then some marketers have the gumption to call people idiots when they complain about it, not having seen it.

Don't believe me? PM for a link

I agree with you Ken.

Ever since Bill Glazer got hold of the Dan Kennedy "gold mine" they've been riding this forced continuity thing to death-- and it may end up being their death.

I think it was Marcia Y. that posted earlier this year about something similar happening to her with a Kennedy product.

I guess Glazer and Kennedy are trying to wring every last cent of profit out of the Dan Kennedy product line... to the point of pissing people off.

I think forced continuity is a shame. And if you're actually running a business where you want your customers to buy from you for YEARS, then you're shooting yourself in the foot. Both feet actually.

It's one thing to have auto-ship for a jelly of the month club. People actually have to ask for the darn jelly.

It's another thing to put the jelly in the cart without telling anyone (except for a small footnote in appendix B of disclosure C) then charge people for it.

I've been to seminars this year where folks are actually proud of pulling a stunt like that.

I had a similar exp when I ordered the "free book" that comes with Magnetic Marketing. But, this was with Dan's old partner -- um what was his name?

Anyhow, there was an offer in the package to order "ONE" book for free (ya just pay shipping). I had previously purchased, and enjoy, The Ultimate Sales Letter -- so I chose The Ultimate Marketing Plan.

I actually rec'd I think 3 books in the mail -- and all were charged to my credit card without my authorization. I griped by email about it, left an ugly voice message (they're all very well insulated you know), but never heard anything back.

It wasn't huge money and thus not worth my time, so I dropped it and put the books on my shelf. Gave the extra copy of The Ultimate Sales Letter to a buddy. (BTW: I'm not suggesting the same for you Ken -- I think you should definitely pursue this)

But it put a really bad taste in my mouth. At the time I disassociated it from Dan because it was under the operation of the other guy -- dang I can't remember his name. He's in Austin, Tx I think.

Anyhow - what a shame.

Ken,

I agree with you 100% and I hope you pursue this clear breach of the law and of fair dealings. The message needs to be sent loud and clear to not only Dan and Bill, but also their followers, that you must deal with customers above board. Always.

Sneaky marketing is not good marketing.

My name was brought up in this discussion, and I don't recall my complaint being the same as yours, although I do recall sounding off about something being done without my permission.

Ken,

That's one of the most unscrupulous things I've ever heard. Auto-renew or continuity must be clearly stated. I guess they don't care about chargebacks and bad reputations.

They'll get what they deserve ... hopefully. Although, by now they must be swimming in money and don't really care about their customers. This is the worst kind of business to get involved with.
