Default Best Practices For Order Confirmation & Email Delivery - 12-27-2007, 05:00 PM

How about we start a thread and share what each of us is doing (for ourselves or for your clients) in terms of the order confirmation & email delivery process.

Meaning...

From the moment a person clicks the final "process" my order button, what happens in your world?

1) Dump them to order confirmation page -- what's on that page?
2) Send emails ... what's in those emails?
3) How do you get your emails delivered? (I'm seeing more and more issues with buyer follow-up emails not getting through. What do you do about that?

Endgame is...

How do you maximize the customer experience, and make sure they get everything they've paid you for?

I am currently battling with my process. I finally got it working correctly and I am afraid of changing it. However this is the process I am using.

Visitor sees sales page

Visitor clicks order button (using E-Junkie)

Visitor pays for product and gets sent an email with a link that sends them to an opt in list(e-junkie) they also get sent to this page automatically just incase they cant find the email. (have had problems with delivery)

customer then fills out opt in form. (Get Response)

customer verifies opt in and gets sent to download page.

customer also gets sent 0day email with download page link (Get Response)

I know that this is a pain in the arse but it seems that my emails keep getting blocked or my customers just cant follow the instructions on the opt in page.

I would really like to slim down to just one redirect to opt in page and one download page link. I am just to scared to change them and have to start sending out manuall emails again.

Thanks for sharing, Terry.

I'm facing the email delivery issue big time.

Then you get support requests from people who "didn't get the confirmation."

PITA!

I'm trying to deliver everything on the confirmation page now. To avoid that prob.

But - if (for example) it's a multi-part call series, or coaching program, etc. You REALLY need to have confirmed email communication with them.

I think I'll probably start having one of my assts call every buyer and make sure they're getting our emails or something.

I've even debated installing voice broadcasting or something as a follow-up precaution. Hmmmm....

Funny you bring this up JP because I was just about to send
you a PM telling you that your email service BLOWS!

I can't recall you ever hitting the inbox. EVER.

I reckon you'd probably double your response by switching to
Aweber. Why you haven't used them in the first place is
baffling to me.

Good luck man.

Here's a quick solution that works for me every time...

Deliver the product on the confirmation page, and simultaneously send out the confirmation email. Put a link on the confirmation page to your support desk, saying "if you don't receive an email with your purchase details..." etc. front and center.

If someone sends in a ticket saying they didnt get the email, send them whitelisting instructions and manually re-add them to the AR series.

Works like a charm.

Hey J.P.--Ricky Breslin was having a lot of the same delivery issues, and I recommended E-Filtrate.

Here's a link: Spam Content Checker

Well worth checking out. Helps me get a lot more of my clients' messages through.

Thanks for the input J-Mo!

BTW: "where" am I ending up?

Now...

I have for a while been concerned about deliverability. Thought from time to time that I might even run a test -- have X number of people I know opt-in and then confirm by phone or blog response or something whether they rec'd the confirmation/1st sequence email or not.

I had an aweber account originally, but moved to the one built into my ecommerce system because of easy add/remove from lists, etc with purchase, etc. But, there are some function that even that system doesn't have, so I believe I'll "move back."

The challenge ... my list has grown significantly since leaving aweber -- that means I'll have to redouble opt-in ALL those people and I know I'll lose a significant percentage of my list.

Long term, it's probably worth it ... and the bright side is that I'll have a (much smaller, but) MUCH more FRESH list.

J-Mo, have you (or has anyone else here) made a similar move? And, if so... how did you transition to avoid LOSING the maximum number of your subscriber base?

Obviously I can continue sending through both services (but that does get annoying to some people who get two copies. I guess I could add a "tag" line below my sig and before the "unscribe" link that says:

(on the old system) If you're getting duplicate emails from me ... click the link below to unsubscribe)

(on the new, aweber system) If you're getting duplicate emails, and want to continue receiving at least one of them from me, please do not unsubscribe below -- please open the OTHER duplicate email and unsubscribe from that list.

Something of that nature...

Further thoughts on the transition anyone???

J.P.,

Bribe 'em.

Send them an email explaining why you're making the list move. Offer them a juicy, ethical bribe after they confirm to the new list.

Good luck,

Mike

While I haven't made that move, I've been seriously thinking about moving from GetResponse to Aweber for a while now. I've helped with Aweber accounts for clients of mine, and I believe it has superior deliverability over GR.

So I'm think along the same lines as you, JP.

Here's what I came up with. Yes, the bribe to opt-in again as Mike suggested.

But I'm also trying to figure out a way to automate removing the people that opt into my new AR from the old one's list. That way I can keep sending bribes to the old list until the cows come home without worrying about upsetting the folks that have switched over.

I know I can do it with a little web programming. There may be an easier way, though.

Anyone do this?

John
