Default 0 - over $500,000 per year. Should I document my journey? - 12-20-2007, 08:24 PM

I'm considering documenting exactly how I brought our business from our crappy apartment to doing what we do now.

It took me and my wife almost 4 years to do what we're doing and we continue to grow and expand and haven't given up. It's a pretty interesting story and I've learned a lot on the way.

My question is, how well do these type of books/systems/courses sell? I know there's many ways of packaging this but I don't really want to get into that.

I do understand how lazy most people are and understand most people want the button pushed FOR them, and have no interest in pushing the button themselves.

And what I'd be writing isn't a push button success type of deal. It's kind of a systematic way of finding financial freedom. The bad thing is that it requires work .

I've got a system, that if followed, can create enourmous success. For instance, my video editor who works for us full time is creating a "How To Shoot A Music Video" info product using our system.

He's worked for us for a year and just couldn't go another day without having his own product after spending a year with me. He works real close with our company and see's what we do and I'm very happy to help him.

I'm also working with a top food and beverage director at a 5 star 5 diamond hotel here starting his own info product and it feels great when I see it click for people.

Documenting how we've done it and laying out a REAL plan for people would take me some time but I can definatley do it.

Any thoughts on doing a project like this? I've never done "make money" stuff so I guess I'm just looking for anyone who has seen sales statistics or something on this.

Thanks!

Ricky,
You already know how I feel about this, but I wanted to toss a couple of coins into the proverbial fountain.

Unlike so many folks doing WSO's and fly by night marketing products, you actually "have" a proven system to make money.

People that are selling WSO's and "marketing product of the month" systems make some pretty decent cash.

But...

With the real-life experience system you have discovered over the past few years, there's no doubt in my mind, your product would produce some decent bling for you and your wife.

Comparing your insider knowledge to some of the other stuff out there that gets decent sales is NO COMPARISON!

There's a starving crowd out there just drooling at the thought that they can duplicate your success.

Something that needs to be pointed out when it comes to writing the copy, though...

Make sure you let these folks know that you weren't born with a silver spoon in your mouth. Let them know about your troubled start. Let them know you read all the books and tried all of the latest marketing techniques, but that you didn't start making any "real" money until you followed your very-own proprietary system.

Let them know that it has taken you years to figure this all out, but then again, that's where the value is... your buyers don't have to sweat the same blood you did to understand how it all works. All they need is your "proven" system. One that breeds success. One that is so ridiculously simple that "anyone can do it"... if they only had an "expert" who could teach them.

If you're going to go through with this, I would suggest getting some JV deals going on the pre-sale phase to help you spread the news when it's time for the launch.

Ricky, with your winning attitude and the team you're using in all aspects of your existing business, this is going to be a real winner.

I remember a few years ago there was a product that came out called "secrets to my success" (I hope that's the right title).

This was a big seller and I remember seeing it all over the net. I believe one of our very own members here at the copywritersboard, Ken Calhoun was a part of this.

Sure, it'll require some upfront, hard work on your end, but I believe the return will be well worth the time invested.

My time is limited these days, but let me know if you need any help with this. I would love to be a part of a great success story.

Cheers!

Yes you can do quite well selling a proven system like this.

The main keys are: price high.

If you went to university to learn brain surgery (similar salary level of around $500,000 a year) how much would you expect to pay for tuition.

Don't undervalue your product.

If you want you can create a marketing funnel with lower priced lead in products.

Also seriously consider mentoring for more serious students.

For that you can charge $300-$1,000+ a month.

Kindest regards,
Andrew Cavanagh

Hey Ricky,

I think you know my feelings on this too, but I'll say again that I would definitely love to see you do something like this and like Stephen, I'd love to help you out in any way if I can.

Beyond my selfish reasons of wanting to personally know how you've done this all I also think something like this would sell real well and be a huge success for you. Shoot, Bill Myers has been selling info on how to make money producing dvds for years and shows no signs of slowing down and I think people would really relate to your personal story.

No pressure or anything, but I really would love to see you do this my friend!

All the best,

Steve

Ricky,

I know your story, and it's pure gold. It's not a matter of if you should document your journey but when. You ARE the American dream. In fact, I want to be "you" when I grow up!

You learned the hard way, and you wouldn't be selling some get-rich-quick system like you see all over the net. In fact, what separates you from a lot of "crap" I see out there is that you've actually done this stuff! That's what makes it so valuable.

And, you know, I'd love to help you any way I can too.

Deb
