Default How to construct an offer - 12-13-2007, 09:26 PM

Hi all

I've been offered an opportunity, which I'm looking at at the moment. Basically, somebody has a business in a box opportunity, which from all indications looks VERY profitable.

Essentially, he will be selling a system which shows starts people in their own basic manufacturing business. He wants help pulling the system together, doing the marketing, preparing the box and so on. He's somewhat marketing savvy, but not as much as he needs to be to do it all himself and somebody recommended me. Essentially, he handles the product side of things, and I handle the marketing side of things.

What would you guys recommend for this? I could do it on a basis of charging him for the time I spend, but I think a JV might be a better way to go.

For those who have done this before, what kind of split/structure have you used before, and how have you justified it.

Thanks in advance

Hugh

I'd go for a 50/50 JV, depending on how much work you're both doing.

John Manley just did a teleseminar today regarding an info product he just launched. He did all the marketing and the Dr. created the product. The recording is on his realitycopywriting blog. Might be worth checking out.

I think it's vital you charge him enough up front that he takes you seriously and that it's worthwhile for you to do it for the fee alone.

Doing 50/50 joint ventures with someone who hasn't paid you money before and has no proven track record is a recipe for disaster.

I'm not saying you shouldn't be asking for a piece of the action but not a piece of the action alone.

Kindest regards,
Andrew Cavanagh
