Exclamation Ok, I'll admit - I need help guys! Please Read. - 12-11-2007, 05:30 AM

Ok, I've been putting off doing this for awhile because of pride, but I simply can't anymore - its gotten too far. I need the help of my colleagues here on the CW board. Things have been... We'll they've been a little slow lately.

Most of my business has been built on referrals, but my last few clients have been newbie marketers and the like - and therefore haven't really had much to offer in the way of referrals.

I've been hunting on craigslist every day, sending out emails to every posting... Watching the job board on here... Watching the warrior forum... I even offered a WSO there and a special offer here - but alas, I've had no work for the last 6 weeks.

Its getting to the point where I have collections calling daily... Can't afford to even go out and buy a coffee, or the gas to get to the coffee shop.

Now, I'm not asking for a handout - hardly. My pride would never let me do that.

So, I'm going to do all I know how - write copy. For you, or for a client you can't take on right now, or anyone else... At this point, I'll even write articles.

I'm willing to put in 24 hour days for the rest of the week if I have to - I just need to get some bills paid before my power gets cut off and they tow away my vehicle.

In return, not only do you get the copy, but a favour you can call in at any time - regardless of what it is.

Turnaround time on the first few takers can be 24-48 hours from now. Of course, you can see my portfolio - marketing-fusion

I have samples, testimonials... I've been in this business for almost a year now, and have many happy clients in my contact file. Unfortunately, they just don't have any work or referrals to offer right now...

It hurts my pride to post this publicly, but alas - I have to do what I have to do to take care of my family. My personal thanks to whoever takes the time to read this - even if you don't have any projects right now, I still appreciate you taking the time.

And thanks in advance to anyone who needs some work done - I can't promise million dollar copy, no one can. But I can promise I'll aim for multi-million dollar copy, and see how far we get.

Merry Christmas, all.

- Cheryl

You may want to check out the copywriting jobs forum Cheryl (if you haven't already done so).

There's some well priced offers in there, even articles. 3-4 years ago when I hit a dry spell, I'd hit up forum jobs, heck, if I knew Elance back then I would have bid like crazy there too.

Good luck.

I've been hitting up the copywriting jobs forum daily lol - and the warrior forum. Although, wait, I haven't been on DigitalPoint lately. Nice!

I worry about bidding on eLance, because I don't have any reputation with them (never bid on any projects through them before.) Will people still accept your bids even when you haven't done eLance work before?

Thanks for the advice! Much, much appreciated!

My guess is some will, some won't

An eagerness to work coupled with staying competitively priced usually works in those situations.

Hi Cherilyn,

when I go to your website my McAfee Anti-virus pops up saying there is a virus!

McAfee – Computer Anti-Virus Software and Internet Security For Your PC

Just thought i'd let you know.

It could just be my PC being crappy, it's been a royal pain in the a** recently!

Best Wishes,

Tom

Tom - Thanks for the headsup! From the link you gave, it looks like its something with the javascript - which would be one of the plugins. I'll have a look-see. Thanks again!

Hi Cherilyn

I feel your pain. I think every freelancer has been exactly where you are right now. And if it's any comfort at all--it does pass. But it's not easy, I know!

You may want to try some freelance job placement agencies. The Creative Group is one. They'll place you in short-term freelance assignments, some are on-site, some aren't. I don't know where you live but they're all over the country. I suggest plugging in "Copywriter" on Monster, and a bunch of their listings will come up.

Good luck and hang in there!
Donna

Thanks Donna! I'll have to try that. They probably don't work internationally (I'm in Canada) but I'll see if there is a similar service up here in the great white north.

Just be aggressive. My very first time out on GetaFreelancer I won a $4,000 job (against 70 other bidders) because I basically bullied the client into giving me the job. Be aggressive with price, too... the average bid was only $2,500.

Good luck.
