Default It's not about what you love - 09-25-2007, 10:29 AM

hello,
I am still in the learning stage. The advice about doing what you love . Has really started to annoy me. One reason is I love play MMorpgs. Never quite got into selling fake items on e-bay .

The problem is in any field . The to 10 percent of the producers in the field. Will generally earn 50 to 80 percent of the income or profits in the field. The rest are left fighting for what remains.

To be among the best you have to love what you do. You also have to be willing to fight through what you need to fight through to get better.

"It's not about what you love. It's about what can you do for 16 hours a day " -Mine

I agree with that.

I think other than...

A. Not having a solid marketing strategy.
B. Not investing a proper amount of $ in your marketing strategy.

Nothing keeps more entrepereneurs poor than the shatty advice of "doing what you love".

Delucian,

==> From what I've been learning, I can't agree with you more, brutha.
can i say that? The president of ASU said I could after I helped him
position his historically black college as... Potential. Realized.

Peronally? Thank you for asking.
...the two questions I've been working on are:

1) In what ways might I profit on what I love to do 16 hours a day?

2) How do I ask for money in a way that I can support what I love to do 16 hours a day?

Here's something just for you, Delucian... I know other readers will see this link and I trust that they won't steal unless You are truly hungry and REALLY broke==> The Bad Ass Report

That's a $67 gift.

Vat is Dat? A complimentary copy of The Bad Ass Report.

I hope you dig iT.

Ben
p.s. I'm asking Marshall Thurber to pay me $23k upfront to publish my next book. The dude is very ADD and he's mentioned to me three times that he wants to publish my next book and I haven't yet gotten him to tell me how he wants me to ask him for money.

p.p.s. I ask one question: Did THE BAD ASS REPORT work for you?

Friends of The Copywriter's Board...

Ben mack,
There was no connection to my quote and Hitlers plan for killing the Jews and ruling the world.

I have a tendency to rephrase quotes so they make more sense to me. so i get to quote myself every now and then.

It comes down to passion vs past time. I have played online Role playing games for 10 to sixteen hours a day weeks and months at a time . but it is still a past time .I read a book or two a week . I love reading . But would i do it as a way to make money. No. It will eventually help me make more money from what i chose to do.

I'm with you Ken. There is nothing worst than ending up with a profitable business that you don't like or a job that pays well but you hate going to everyday. And we're ALL in the learning stage...

Sometimes, making money and having a successful project can be the thing you love... and the passion from that just pours into whatever market you start selling to.

Erik,
You bring up a good point. I will say . There are people who love building businesses . the product or service doesn't matter as much. While the thrill they get from growing a business. Matters above all else. Then the growth rate slows or the business get to big for them. They sell and start a new business .

Took the words right out of my mouth.

If a site about "barkdust" makes me money, well then, I love barkdust.

If a celebrity gossip site with random Britney Spears posts makes me loot,
then hot damn, I'm in love with Britney.

Personally, I like to find out what is making money and then love that
thing. After all, there's a lot of love to give. Why limit it?

mia culpa. I hadn't read it as in favor of killing anybody, especially not my relatives.

I'm sorry. I thought you were saying that working for your passions was "my angst" and that you chose a rephrase with that as the reference... in a safe way.

TOTALLY MY BAD

Please forgive me.

Ben

I think it's both true and false.

I think if you do what you love, you will find a way to monetize it... you will ENJOY working your posterior off at it... you will find the money to invest in it... etc, etc, etc.

They say that success comes from either one of three sources:

Inspiration.
Desperation.
And perspiration.

Doing what you love won't make you rich. It just makes the process of getting there easier or at least more livable.
