Unhappy Best Commercial Copy...EVER? - 07-01-2007, 02:32 AM

Hey,

I was playing around on digg.com a few minutes ago when I saw these:

YouTube - thai life

and

YouTube - Thai Insurance CM - "Daddy" with Eng sub

After watching the second video, I almost cried...

But that is not all.

A few minutes later, I dug out my own life insurance policy forms to glance at them...and that is when I realized something...

I had just watched a commercial...
That was not an infomercial...
That made me take MASSIVE action (my insurance forms, sad to say, were stuck deep down in the paperwork abyss, and they were not coming out without a fight)...

Maybe it is just me, but if these commercials had a phone number (call to action), and they were US companies, I would probably be on the phone requesting information on their policies.

So, I have to ask how do these commercials make you feel?

Do they work, and if so what is it about them that made me feel like ***?

Powerful... I had chills running up and down from the first one.

Right on target!

These are amazing. Thanks for the link. I swear, if they had a phone number to call, Thai Life would be selling policies all over the world.

Why is the "My Son" one so powerful? I think it's because all of us have moments when we're not as patient, thoughtful, sensitive, and loving as we should be with the people we love.

The ad reminds us of how transient life is. And how quickly and unexpectedly we can lose it. It reminds us that when we speak or act unkindly to another person, that could be the last interaction we ever have with them.

This commercial hits the guilt button, and hits it hard. And it hits the self-image button, too - this is not who we want to be. We want to be patient, kind, thoughtful, and loving all the time, but we're not. But if you make sure that those you love are properly taken care of, even after you're gone, you can let them know how much you really did love them. And you're a better person for it, too.

Brilliant. Freakin' brilliant. And pass the Kleenex.

P.S. Notice that the ads are not afraid to show someone dying or dead. American advertisers almost NEVER do that. That's usually PSA country, if it's done at all. It's considered to "disturbing" for Americans...

You know, I had thought the same thing!

Maybe, if they got the license to, they could? I mean, their commercials are so good that they are pretty much permission marketing at its finest...
