Default Anyone know a trustworthy webhost who stays online..? - 10-12-2006, 12:18 PM

I'm on my eighth host. Prepaid for a year. Their servers are down anywhere from one to 14 times a day.

Down right now as a matter of fact but likely to come back online any minute (I hope).

I know it's not a routing problem on my end. I tried to get to my site using http://validator.w3.org/checklink and the site is error 500

Also, webdev site uptime checking is in place. So far this morning webdev shows my three domains hosted on this server have been up and down nine times (it's only 9 a.m. here in california).

I may be looking to jump ship again if this downtime doesn't stop.

A recommendation would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks.

Andre
PS: I switched hosts before because of lack of support, excessive downtimes, or because services were misconfigured and not working correctly as promised (php, mysql, perl, etc) and the host unwilling to make fixing the problems a priority. It's happened with two big name operations too. Who do you folks use and trust? Thanks.

On your eighth host!! Geez!!

I use A2 Web Hosting.

I have been using them for over a year. From my experience I think it is very good; so much that I have moved all my web sites there.

Their on-line support never let me down.

Regarding downtime, I only found the server down once. As I was working on my site, it went down. I submitted a ticket and they sorted it out within minutes.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Guillermo

Holy cow.

I've dealt with a few hosts over the years. By far the best I've come across is bluehost.com.

The price is right, and they keep all their 'Fantastico' auto-installs up to date with the latest software versions. I've compared this to other hosts where I have admin access and... well they suck compared to Bluehost.

I just joined their affiliate program a few days ago, so buying through this link gives me a commission:

Web hosting provider - Bluehost.com - domain hosting - PHP Hosting - cheap web hosting - Frontpage Hosting E-Commerce Web Hosting Bluehost

(Otherwise, this is the straight link to their website...)

Web hosting provider - Bluehost.com - domain hosting - PHP Hosting - cheap web hosting - Frontpage Hosting E-Commerce Web Hosting Bluehost

And just so I don't come across as touting Bluehost for the sole purpose of making some money, I've also heard that ixwebhosting.com is good (well the price anyway), although I've never played around with their admin panel.

Hey Andre,

I was just about to critique your site, but it was DOWN!

... ok, back on topic for this post.

I too use A2 hosting. Fairly reliable, though my sites go down weekly, but usually the outages only last minutes.

Think about it, even if a webhost has a 99.9% monthly uptime guarantee, they can be down for around 45 minutes per month!

Frustrating isn't it?

Anyway, PM me with your phone number, and I'll try to give you a call later today to go over your site. I'm on my way to San Diego for the JV Alert Live seminar, so I'll have a bit of time...

Cheers,

Mike

I pre-paid for a year. Once. Never did that again.

That was one of many experiences that royally ticked me off and inspired me to start my own web hosting company.

You deserve so much better than what you are getting!!! And don't lose hope ... there are good hosts out there ... *cough* *cough*

I use ICDSoft.com, and have never had a single issue with them. Really, really pleased with them.

The best part (for me) is their tech support. I'm much more a marketer than a techie, so I find myself getting easily tripped up with the technical stuff. Of the couple of dozen support tickets I've posted, then longest it took them to answer me was 16 minutes. No matter what time of the day or night I posted. And the answers are clear & concise, too.

Cheers,

Mike

I use Banana Hosting at Banana Hosting: Affordable web hosting with a difference!. We also accept PayPal.. I have a very simple site. Whenever I have a problem, I write a support ticket and get a good answer, usually within a few hours. I dumped Go Daddy because writing to them about problems was like writing to thin air.

Sometimes the server is down and you do get warning ahead of time. I suppose if I were selling a product 24/7 this could be a problem. But I think Banana Hosting is worth looking into, and it's amazingly inexpensive too.

Andre,

I have to agree with Michael about using Bluehost.com.

I set up a blog for a client last night using their service.

1. Gave me free domain by prepaying for a year. I like to prepay if I know it is a reliable service. It's just less hassle that way. And cheaper.

2. In less than 1 minute I had a sales professional on the phone answering
a domain name related question.

3. In less than 1 minute 30 seconds had a support tech on the phone who answered an IP related question. I spoke to him about this and they take big pride in providing exceptional tech support. Everytime I have called bluehost, I have gotten a knowledgeable support tech ON THE PHONE within minutes. That to me is worth a lot more money than the $7.95 a month they charge for their hosting service.

Last thing I want with a website related problem is a "ticket".

4. Installed wordpress using fantastico within three minutes.

In other words, I love their service. But their support really sold me.

Gary
